Starting a philanthropic site and wondering if wordpress is the best way to go

    Hey everyone,

I am putting together a fundraiser scheduled for six weeks from now and was hoping I could get some advice as to the best way to set up a good site. Initially, I figured that wordpress would be the best alternative but I wanted to see if anyone out there had some enlightened suggestions as I am still very new to establishing well designed and fully operational sites.

Essentially what I am working on is a charity event taking place in six weeks and I would like to create a smart looking blog style website where guests can register for the party, pay via pay pal on the site, and possibly implement a forum where people can post about the event. I would also like to be able to upload pictures of the venue, and basically provide a one stop site for the guests to be able to get all their information and sign up.

I looked at wordpress but don’t know it it’s the best way to go. Does anyone have any suggestions of scripts that I should use to establish such a site in a very timely manner???

    Thanks in advance!

Due to the short timescale, I would say that wp.com is probably the best option, possibly with a custom domain upgrade.

As long as you can find a theme that you like you can:

    1. Set a static front page with an introduction to the charity and the fundraiser.
    2. Create other pages with more specific information (participate, donate etc)
    3. Use the blog posts tool for latest information.

I don’t know how well your suggested site fits in with the wordpress.com Terms Of Service so you may want to ping staff a quick email to ask before you go too far.

    Hope this helps, good luck!
