  Hi, could I just check.. when you say it’s an annual payment on the’plan’ .. is that taken ‘upfront’ before we start doing any work and checking out if wordpress is suitable for what we want ?

  You say “starting again” but it could be a good idea to work with the free plan for a while to see if WordPress.com is suitable for what you want. If you upgrade and then change your mind you can request a refund if less than 30 days have elapsed (but within 48 hours of the upgrade in the case of domains): https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/
