Starting all over

Back in 2012, I wanted to start a blog with you guys. It looks to me that I came to you through Motousa.com.
I would like two things:
1) get rid of Motousa.com’s connection to a blog I would like to have on your service.
2) to import my existing blog from blog.com to your site if possible. That blog is timlavelle.blog.comYou probably know that blog.com seems to have big problems which I have only noticed lately. .
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
1) get rid of Motousa.com’s connection to a blog I would like to have on your service.
You may change the blog address to remove the word “motousa.” See the Change a Blog Address support page for instructions. Is there some other connection? Motousa.com presently redirects to another URL.
2) to import my existing blog from blog.com to your site if possible. That blog is
See the Import support page. Blog.com is not among the platforms listed on the Import page, but in a relevant topic titled “How can import from blog.com to wordpress.com all my content?,” member ariwinokur says:
Since blog.com is a WordPress based site, similar to WordPress.com, the XML file you have should be importable like any WordPress export. On your import page just choose the WordPress option and upload the file.
This advice worked successfully for the member toward whom it was directed.

OK – great reply BUT…
I accomplished the name change but I cannot accomplish the import from blog.com.
I found “Import”. It seems to require me to browse my own computer for a file – a blog.com file probably. But I don’t have a file like that. In the past, to use blog.com, I would search “blog.com” – then I log in to “timlavelle.blog.com” using my e-mail address and password and start blogging (if blog.com is working).
With this information can you give me another method of importing all the timlavelle.blog.com posts and pictures to my new “tjlavelle.wordpress.com” blog-site? Thanks.

Yes, exactly. Blog.com support should be able to help you with exporting such a file.

Blog.com was working and I exported an XML file to my computer. Then I imported that XML file to tjlavelle.wordpress.com.
I have seen that there is a 1.44 meg file now within the wordpress blog.
BUT… I cannot see any of my previous blog.com posts or the pictures that I thought would be brought forward to this wordpress blog. Can you look inside tjlavelle.wordpress.com and tell me what I have to do next to see those posts and pictures that I thought I imported?
Thanks.

I’m a volunteer, so I don’t have access to the administrative areas of your site. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.

I made a mistake above….it is not a 1.44 meg file but a 5.44 meg file that has moved from timlavelle.blog.com to tjlavelle.wordpress.com.
Hope someone can look inside my wordpress site and see why I can’t see any of those old blog posts from blog.com.

Hi there,
You can go to the Import section of your blog’s dashboard to import that content into your WordPress.com blog. Here’s a direct link to that section of your dashboard:
https://tjlavelle.wordpress.com/wp-admin/import.php
You can select “WordPress” on that page, and then follow the on-screen instructions to upload the XML file from blog.com.
If you run into trouble with that process, or have questions about that, please let me know.

@musicdoc1 — Yep, thanks. It looks like the XML file was only uploaded to the media library, not actually imported, but if it turns out the import process isn’t working properly I’ll be able to take another look after that.

What you have asked me to do is something that I did already yesterday. BUT…I have done it again as you asked and after assigning “tjlavelle” as the author inside wordpress to a couple of blog.com’s authors names (janeblank and Mossyrock 1800 N) the website page changed to (begin quote)
“Import WordPress
Processing…We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.” end quote
Soooooo, I am in your hands I believe?! Hopefully I can logout while you do your work? Thanks for all the help so far. TL

Just that quickly I have received an e-mail telling me that the import worked.
Huge thanks but upon checking, I see that none of the photos or videos from old “blog.com” posts seem to be available for viewing. There are those “blank outlines of a photo with a small (non0working) X” in the post where a photo should be seen. Can you help with that?
Doin’ a great job so far.

Hi there,
I’m glad that import got all of your posts imported! But it’s a bummer that the photos and videos didn’t import.
I took a look at your imported posts, and I do see the broken images, like in this post:
However, the way the importer works is by looking for those media files on your old blog.com blog, and pulling them into your WordPress.com blog from there. (The media files themselves aren’t included in the XML export file, so they have to be available on the old blog for the import to work.)
I checked those images, and none of those images are working on your old blog. Here’s an example of a non-working image from that post:
If you can get those images working on your blog.com blog again, let me know and we can try again to import them here. Otherwise, you’ll need to re-upload those images to your posts here at WordPress.com.

To someone like me, who has been using a blog site that has been…problematical…the amount of help you are giving me, and in such a timely way is not short of phenomenal.
Rather than spend much time trying to get my old blog pictures working through blog.com, I will just make a small hobby out of trying to add those old pictures to the old posts you have helped me bring forward. If I cannot do that myself I will ask for your help.
Thanks again, for now let’s close this subject out. Tim L

Ummm…
1) I was looking in the Profile area and noticed the following web address. http://motousa.wordpress.comOne of the first questions I asked was how to divorce this blog site from motousa. So, having followed your advice, should I still be seeing this reference in my profile area?
2) What is the easiest path to getting to “Forums” when I log in? I seem to have a hard time finding it each time.
Thanks again.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for your kind words on Friday! Sorry for the delay getting back to you about your latest questions. (It can take a bit of time to catch up after the weekend.)
1) I was looking in the Profile area and noticed the following web address. http://motousa.wordpress.com
Do you mean the Web Address in your account settings? That does need to be manually updated (it wasn’t updated when you changed your site’s address). I see you updated that to your new site address — if you see that old address anywhere else, please let me know!
2) What is the easiest path to getting to “Forums” when I log in? I seem to have a hard time finding it each time.
I’d recommend setting up a bookmark to the forums in your browser:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/
You can also bookmark your profile directly for quick access to your forum threads:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/tjlavelle
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

Thank you again. Great help. Tim.
“Happiness Engineer”…I make jokes about having multiple personalities while I am out on the road. I could see a new personality coming sometime in the future. Each of us should have a built-in happiness engineer.
