Starting an online film festival

    I’d like to start a film festival site. It will be capable of artists entering (uploading) short videos and photos, placed into several appropriate categories, for a fee. They will be judged by an end date and winners notified

    Hi there,

    We do not have specific experience with setting up that kind of site so we’re unsure how to advise you. Do you happen to have any sites that you are drawing inspiration from or trying to emulate? It may help to see an example of someone else who has created a similar site as a starting point. Do you plan to offer some kind of public submission form? Or will submissions be private and something you plan to managed internally?

    On WordPress.com we do not have ecommerce functionality built in, and while we do have a way to offer the sale of products, we do not have a way to tie a payment to a submission. It sounds like you may need to use a “plugin” to add this kind of functionality and we recommend the WooCommerce ecommerce plugin as a starting point since it has a lot of flexibility in how it’s implemented.
