Starting first blog
-
I must be the only person in the world who doesn’t know how to do this as I couldn’t find an answer in the forums! I’ve activated my account and my dashboard comes up – but where on earth is the link for me to actually create a blog?!!! I’ve clicked on everything that is showing (stats, surfer, profile etc). Could someone please advise what needs doing as I’m going slightly mad now ……

While you are here in the forums, in the grey admin bar at the top of your browser window, if you click on dashboard it should take you to the main admin page for the blog if you set one up when you created your account. Did you sign up for a blog as well, or just an account/username when you first started?

I would like to know if you can start a blog if you did not sign up for one initially with the account. It doesn’t seem so.

Ah, now there could be the problem – I think it may have been just a username as I wasn’t too sure if I would do it this way or the WordPress.org way on my domain server.

If you want to create a blog here, then while you are signed in, go to http://wordpress.com/ and in the upper left under where it says, Welcome treeze01, there will be a link below about registering a blog. Click that link and you are on your way.

I did that and every time I typed in the blog domain it kept telling me off and that I should only use lower case letters etc. I typed in exactly http://www.englishplants.co.uk and also http://www.englishplants. I still got told off.

You cannot use URL’s like those. Those would be fully registered domain names. Type in just “englishplants” without the quote marks and as long as that name is not already taken, your new blog URL will be http://englishplants.wordpress.com/ . If you do not want the wordpress.com in the blog name, then you will still have to create a blog as I’ve outlined, and then you will have to buy the domain name and domain mapping upgrade from wordpress and then you can have the englishplants.co.uk URL (again, as long as it has not already been registered by someone else somewhere in the world).
