Starting fresh?
-
I am a teacher and loved using my blog to communicate with parents last year. I’d like to do the same this school year but I’d like to hide all of last year’s posts and pictures. Is there a way to archive or hide all of the older information and make the blog appear like a clean slate for the beginning of this school year – or do I have to start a new blog?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey Michelle!
Do you want the old posts to still be viewable/searchable? Assuming so, there are really two main options:
- You could create a new blog following the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-new-blog-to-an-existing-account
- You could add a new category titled “2014 School Year” or something similar as explained here:
Then, you could use a category page as described here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/
The category page would only display posts from the “2014 School Year” category. This way, old posts are still visible, but you can preferentially display the new posts in your menu.
Would that second option work?
- You could create a new blog following the instructions here:

I created a new category called 2013/2014 and put all the old posts into this category. Then I made this category a page and it displays at the top as a menu item. Now is there a way to remove these posts (hide/delete) from being seen on the front page of the blog?
Thanks again for your help!

Hey Michelle!
That’s the difficult part. There really isn’t an easy way to remove these posts from your front page. Here are two possible solutions:
You could create a static front page introducing you and what your site is about:
In this case, your front page wouldn’t display your latest posts. It would just display non-changing content you setup.
If you would like to still have your front page display your latest posts, we could just limit the amount of posts on your front page to the number of new posts you have. That way, only new content is displayed and your older stuff gets pushed off the front page as you add more new content.
To do this, first, go to your Reading Settings here and change the setting for “Blog pages show at most” to “1” for the moment:
https://msfravelskindergarten.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php
Now, your front page will only show your latest post. As you add more posts, bump this up accordingly. Eventually, after you add 9 more new posts, you’ll be back up to 10 posts on your front page, all new posts. Does that method make sense?
