Starting new blog with existing name

I am helping a local charity to set up a new WordPress website. Another volunteer tried a couple of years ago and didn’t get very far, but it means that the name we want to use – pegadasebigodes.wordpress.com already exists.

We want to set up a WordPress account in the name of the charity so that it isn’t linked to any one person’s account (they have had problems in the past with volunteers disappearing and all access to websites/FB pages etc disappearing with them. The other volunteer still has access to the WordPress site through his personal WordPress account but couldn’t work out how to transfer ‘ownership’ of it to a different account. He has told me that he deleted the blog so that I could set up a new one with the same name, but WordPress tells me that the name is already in use.

Assuming he has deleted the site properly, will the name become available again? Or will we have to come up with a different name for it (unfortunate because the name of the site is the name of the charity!)?

    pegadasebigodes.wordpress.com is no longer available.

The authors have deleted this site.

Was very bad – the name is gone forever from everyone

You will need to pick a different name or buy a custom domain name and map it to a blog here

Very good on you setting up an account for your charity that is not a personal email – many problems when someone sets up a site then leaves with the keys

Well, that’s a pain. Thanks for the response though.

Is there a way of undeleting it to make it available for us to use again? He didn’t realise that deleting it would be so final, he just want to make the site address available again so I could use it!
