Hello. It all depends what you want to use your blog for. Some people want to use their blog simply as a portfolio for photos, images or as a base for a project in which case backlinking and search engine optimisation are not so important. If you are looking to promote an idea or a product you will need to work hard to meet the requirements necessary in order for search engines to recognise your blog as being high quality. This means your blog will need to contain a large amount of high quality, original, useful or interesting information structured in a way that will be understood easily by people. As well as this you will need plenty of back links from other relevant sites which are not spammy and also offer value to readers. This is a huge subject.
