Starting out with wordpress, just one problem!

I am starting out with WordPress and am wanting to add a custom widget to all my pages. It is a blog counter from http://www.blogcounters.com. How do I add a custom widget? Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t add a custom widget to a wordpress.com blog. If you have the html code for the widget, you can put it in a text widget in your sidebar. However, if it contains flash, javascript or iframes, wordpress.com will strip that out.

Sorry, it uses javascript. Damn it anyway!!!
Do you know any blog counter that I could add to it?

I don’t know about other blog counters.
To add a text widget, just go to Appearance – widgets – then add. If you haven’t changed your widgets at all, then be aware that the sample set of widgets that come when you start a new blog will all automatically be removed, but can easily be re-added on the same widgets page, without any loss of data.
