  Do I need a domain name just to write articles on WordPress?

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  You do not have to register a domain, you can start with WordPress free plan if that works for you.

  Just to add to @amiteshg93’s reply, the Free plan comes with a .wordpress.com address you can use for as long as you like.
