  do I have to link to a domain to start my site – I’m not ready to publish yet?

  Hi busypens123

  You don’t need to setup your domain in the beginning. You can first complete with your site creation once you feel like you want to add domain to your site you can add the domain that time.

  You will be getting the free domain as example.wordpress.com in the starting once you are done with your site then you can change your domain to the custom domain by upgrading to the paid plan. If you have purchase the plan in starting while site creation then also you will be able to use a domain credit feature under the paid plan to add a domain to your site.
