Static blog page
-
At the moment my general blog page is filled with whatever my latest blog post is. However, Ideally I would like the blog page to be a page that never changes (a static page?) that says something like ‘Welcome to my blog….’. And then in order for people to access the actual blogs, they would need to click on them on the left hand side bar, which contains a list of them. I hope that makes sense!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

So the way to set this up would be to go to your reading settings here:
https://nichooperdotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php
And where it currently says Posts page: Blog, select the dropdown and set it to the “-Select-” option instead of any page. Scroll down and save changes.
Your ‘Blog’ page will then be just a static page, and you can write your “Welcome to my blog…” text in its body.
Next, go to your widget settings:
https://nichooperdotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php
And make sure a Recent Posts widget is set to display in the sidebar.
If you want to display posts, but not necessarily the most recent ones, you could also use a Text widget and the Display Post shortcode to display a list of posts using filters of your choice.
