static blog page not linking with posts

Hello! I’ve created a static blog page (not as the homepage) for posts. I’ve created & published one post, but it’s not showing on the static blog page.

I’m wondering if the permalink is the issue, but not sure. Would appreciate help in sorting this out. Thanks!

    Hi @easyitalianonline ,

Thanks for posting on the WordPress.com forum :)

Have you tried changing the reading settings?

    To do it:
Settings –> Reading –> Select “a static page” –> Choose the page to use as Home page and the page to use as post page.

    I hope I was helpful

    Keep me updated
    Enzo

Hello @enzome85 Thanks so much for. your reply! Yes, I have set “Home” as the homepage & “Latest News” as the blog page in Settings->Reading. But still it’s not showing. Any idea why not? Thanks again for helping!

@enzome85 Here’s a screenshot of the settings, if it helps.

    Hi @easyitalianonline ,

I’m sorry you still haven’t solved it, but let’s not lose heart :)

The thing that comes to my mind is:

Have you checked if the Permalinks are set correctly?
In your case they should be set to post name.

To do this, go to Settings->Permalinks and choose Post Name.
Save the changes even if the settings are already correct to refresh the permalinks.

Once the permalinks are set try resetting the home page and blog page (like we did before)

save everything, clear the caches and let’s see if we fixed it! ;)

I hope this can help you.

    Update me on developments ;)
    Enzo

  • @easyitalianonline can you try one thing? I noticed you have one single published post, and it’s marked Sticky. Can you un-sticky that for now and see if it shows up? Your theme may be built to handle sticky posts differently, and that would be the quickest test.

Hello @enzome85& @supernovia Thank you both for your replies. I’ve fixed the problem of the blog posts showing. But 2 things:

Where do I edit the style of blog posts on the blog page. I really don’t like how it’s looking right now, but can’t seem to find where to edit it. I would like to have multiple columns (maybe 3 for now) with the blog title, excerpt, & the featured image.

@supernovia I un-sticky the post & it shows up. Does this mean with the theme I’m using I can’t sticky a post?

Thanks again to you both for your help!

  • Hey there,

Thanks for reaching back out – and I’m glad to see this has been useful.

Where do I edit the style of blog posts on the blog page. I really don’t like how it’s looking right now, but can’t seem to find where to edit it. I would like to have multiple columns (maybe 3 for now) with the blog title, excerpt, & the featured image.

The blog template can be edited here: https://easyitalianonline.wordpress.com/wp-admin/site-editor.php?postType=wp_template&postId=premium%2Fmunchies%2F%2Findext can be found appearance

This can be found via Appearance > Editor > Templates > Index.

I un-sticky the post & it shows up. Does this mean with the theme I’m using I can’t sticky a post?

It can stick a post. Currently, looking at the Query loop block in the template mentioned above, this is set to exclude sticky posts.

I’ve created this screenshot to show you how to change this:

    I hope this helps!

Thanks @aleone89 for your help, it fixed both issues! Now I have just 2 other things :)

First, I can’t figure out how to have the posts be the same dimension; one is smaller than the other. And I’m not sure how to add elements of the query loop block. I’d like to add some of the same elements as listed on this WordPress article…

Second, the mobile version footer isn’t showing all the pages or social media icons. I turned off “allow to wrap to multiple lines” but want that only for the desktop version. Is there a way to fix this for mobile?

  • Hey there,

Glad to see this has worked!

First, I can’t figure out how to have the posts be the same dimension; one is smaller than the other.

So you may wish to look at the featured image aspect ratio and sizes, and this can be located in the same template, as seen here:

Generally speaking, you would be looking to add featured images that are roughly the same size, and the length of titles also has a baring on how things sit.

nd I’m not sure how to add elements of the query loop block. I’d like to add some of the same elements as listed on this WordPress article…

I find adding these via list view is the easiest, which is the three lines in the top left hand corner.

If you click on an element in the loop > click on the three dots > and then click “insert before/after” it’ll create a space in the loop to add an element.

You can then click the plus, whereby you can search for the blocks that you wish to add.

Second, the mobile version footer isn’t showing all the pages or social media icons. I turned off “allow to wrap to multiple lines” but want that only for the desktop version. Is there a way to fix this for mobile?

I think I can replicate what you’re seeing here. To check, are you seeing something like this, whereby everything scrolls off to the right?

Hello @aleone89 Thx again for all your help, we really appreciate it!

I haven’t yet had time to update the elements as you indicated. I’ll let you know if I have questions once I do.

Yes, regarding the mobile footer that’s exactly the issue; everything scrolls off to the right. Not sure how to fix that only for mobile. Any ideas?

  • Hey there,

    No problem!

Yes, regarding the mobile footer that’s exactly the issue; everything scrolls off to the right. Not sure how to fix that only for mobile. Any ideas?

Yes – so the navigation and the social icons weren’t configured to wrap upon multiple lines and so these settings seen here, needed activating. (I’ve done this for you!)

    I hope this helps!

Hello @aleone89 Many thanks again for all your help, it’s really appreciated!

    2 questions:

    1. Is it possible to have the footer navigation & social icons wrap only on mobile? We don’t want it to wrap on desktop.
    2. I’ve added elements on the list menu for our blog formatting. But now our first blog isn’t showing. Any ideas why?
  • Hi!

Is it possible to have the footer navigation & social icons wrap only on mobile? We don’t want it to wrap on desktop.

Right now your menu and social menu are next to each other sharing one “row” block.

If you take them outside the “row” block, they’ll each have their own line and won’t need to share the space. That would make them less likely to wrap. You could also adjust the spacing between individual links if needed. Want to give that a go?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello @supernovia Thanks so much for your reply & help. Apologies for the delay in replying to say so. We’ve rearranged the rows & like how it looks much more. Thanks again!
