Static First Page Still Showing as a Blog
-
I have followed the instructions to a T. My page still looks like the original blog and not showing my customized theme. Next steps please…
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy –
I’ll be happy to help. When using a static front page you’ll need to assign your posts to publish to a different page. What page do you want the posts to publish on?
-
I am using the Cadwell Template. But when I create any page and save it, the format is still the original Blog page.
Thank you,
Lauren

Liz, please don’t forget me. I’m flying out in the wind. As I stated before, when choosing a theme your pages you should look like the theme you chose, not happening here. The page is in a blog format. I have deleted all the pages. When I publish a new page, alas blog format and not my theme.

Every theme has a detailed theme description page with set up instructions and a live demo site. Premium themes have their own support docs and support forums. It does not look like you have located these important docs:
Detailed theme description page https://wordpress.com/themes/caldwell/
Theme Support doc https://wordpress.com/themes/caldwell/support/
Live demo site https://caldwelldemo.wordpress.com/

http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/caldwellThe difference between web site and blog is just semantics and structure. A blog is a website. The difference between blog and website is simply structure and semantics.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one-way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

Oops! Sorry about the repeated sentence above. That was not intended.
This is a one or the other situation. You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page ie. the Home page. By default that is the URL of the site.(2) A static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ and all posts on a different page.
By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. Create your two pages first
Front page:
Posts page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/After you do that you go to > Dashboard > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/A static page (select below)
Front page:
Posts page:Go to http://serenetherapyandspainc.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php and make the required change.
Front page displays
Save changes

Please describe exactly what you expect any Page (not Post) to look like after you look at this page on the live demo site for your theme https://caldwelldemo.wordpress.com/the-wine/

Yes, I am trying to get my first page to lookike the Caldwell static page. I have deleted all the blog post, and all of the original pages to start out fresh. I created a static first page, saved and published it. The page is coming up as a blog. Not what I want.
-
That is strange because I see the instructions at https://wordpress.com/themes/caldwell/support/ under Homepage Setup.
Sorry but you will have to wait for Staff member lizkarkoski to follow up here.

Liz,
I am including my user name and password. So you can see what I am dealing with. The current page is my latest attempt to create the Caldwell home page. I deleted all the pages, starting from scratch.

I am looking at this now.

Thank you timethief for the instructions and links provided.
I’ve adjusted your settings so that your posts will publish to the Blog page. To do this, I first had to restore the deleted pages. You aren’t able to adjust the front page or the post page of the site when there are not any active published pages.
When a user comes to your site, they will always see the Home page first. Both of these settings can be edited if that is not what you wanted. You’ll find the Blog page added to your menu now as well.
When you click on Blog from the site menu you will see the default sticky post (with the water sunset pic) and then two additional sample posts that I’ve added just for context.
Next, go ahead and add the content that you want to have on each of the following pages. Go to My Sites > Pages > Edit > Update
Home – This is the front page of your site. The first things visitors see.
About – What is unique about your business? This would be a great place to put that information.
Contact – You can customize the contact form if you want.
Blog – This is where your posts will be published.Let me know once you have the pages on the site updated and we will move on to tackle the other set up points like the featured images and featured content.
