Static front page not showing

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m trying to set a static front page for my blog using the Sketch theme. I’ve followed the instructions and created a Home page and a Posts page. I have the “static front page” setting checked for the Home page in Settings/Reading and also in Customize. But the home page still just shows my most recent projects. What am I missing?

    My blog is tinadonvito.wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, and know that static front pages can be traffic killers, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

This is for my writing portfolio so I don’t care so much about traffic – I just want it to look pretty for prospective editors :)

Those are the instructions I followed. What is happening is that “static page” is showing my recent portfolio projects instead of the page I created called “Home.” When I change it to show recent posts, I do see my most recent post (which is actually just a test post since I’m only doing portfolio projects).

I switched to Twenty-ten theme and it is showing the “Home” page, which is correct.

I don’t understand why it’s showing recent portfolio projects instead of the Home page when I have the Home page set as “static page.”

I think I sort of figured out my problem – I wasn’t understanding that by setting the Home page as a ‘portfolio page template’ that meant that all my portfolio projects will show on the Home page in the order that I create them. This is not really what I want because every time I add a new project the Home page will change; thus defeating the purpose of having a static front page.

What I really want is to have certain portfolio projects appear on the Home page and stay that way. I’m not sure how to do this?

I figured it out – use the portfolio shortcode.
