Static home page…
-
So…I’m trying to set a static front page. I want to set the “home” tab on the blog to be this page, but when I go under Settings > Reading I’m not able to set “home” as the front page. When I change the posts page to another page on my blog, there’s no way to edit the “home” page….and if I add another page titled “home,” then two “home” tabs appear on the blog.
I’ve done this successfully on another blog, but….ha, for some reason it’s just not clicking this time! Any help would be appreciated….
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here – or link your nickname to your blog as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know. We usually need that to give a relevant answer.

I want the “home” tab to be a static page…the “looking closer” tab to be the posts page…

Have you written the page already? Then you go to Settings->General and set the page of your choosing to be the static start page of the site. There’s a drop-down menu there to choose the page.

I think Raincoaster means settings > reading for setting a static front page and a new blog page.

I’m having a similar problem with the site I”m working on: http://northlandcollegeoutdoored.wordpress.com/
I can’t seem to get rid of the Blog from the header navigation, even though I’ve set Home as the static page and pointed posts to my News page. No where in my edit pages is there a page titled blog to remove or hide, either.
Any ideas?

That’s not a page like those you add yourself: it’s a navigation tab to direct a reader back to the front of your blog, and it’s built into the theme, so you cannot remove it.
What you can do is hide the redundant “Blog” page by assigning it to a parent (child pages don’t show in the header).
Or you can switch to a theme with no built-in home tab.

Please look at your admin Settings –> Reading. You can define a Static homepage and a second page for your posts.
