Static Home Page
-
Sorry – me again.
I have changed my theme to 2012. I do not see any option to set a static home page. I cannot find :embarrassed: I think I was nicely told that I’d have to redo the entire page (assuming that means I will loose all of my page counts and followers? I don’t want to do that. Help :) Please. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Making this change does not result in followers or stats losses.
The set-up instructions for your theme are here https://wordpress.com/themes/twentytewlve/ and the live demo site is here https://twentytwelvedemo.wordpress.com/
By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

I feel like an idiot (though know I am not). I am not finding any box selection for static.

Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner. It is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and a single associated email address, and who is the original Admin of the blogs registered under that username account.
You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard and create a static front page.

sorry – you have me totally confused. It is my account. I logged into it – how else would I be able to make changes? I will log out and log back in and see if something changes. It makes no sense that I am in with my posts, stats etc and am being told it’s not my account. Kind of scary.

I was able to find what I had to in order to set up the static page. The direction omit the step in which you go to that page and have to look to the upper right hand corner and select “help”. Then three links pop up and you have to follow them directly in order to set the static page.
I had made two new pages with titles only and looked for the option to change to static setting – in this manner, there is no way to make the static page.
Now I have the static page – my new blog posted to the main page, I thought it would post on the second “blog” page. I don’t see an option to make a “blog” (link) front static page to link to the articles. They do show up under “categories”. The sample page did show that. I will keep working at it.
Sometimes, those “small” details, like “you have to click on help and use that link only” really matter.
Thank you for the help you tried to give. Have a nice evening.

I am on a PC and I don’t see that on my site. Are you using a mobile?
