static home page

    I am currently using the theme Misty Lake. I just found out this theme has been retired. I’m not sure how that will impact what I want to do. I don’t know if I will have to choose a new theme.
    I’m considering having a static home page with small photos and links to my pages.
    I’m concerned that my pages don’t have tags. I have a blog page; currently, this is the home page. Some of my other pages contain a lot of PowerPoint presentations that have been converted to pdfs. I want people to be able to find these, and I don’t know how to make that happen. I have changed my tagline. It may help a little, but I don’t think it will have the full desired effect.

    It seems that at a minimum, there should be a way to manually input keywords and tags for internet searches.

    I’ve checked the page https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/#use-keywords-on-your-site but I don’t think this will help.

    Is there a plug-in that can allow me to enter keywords and tags, and NOT categories?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • @holyhiway pages don’t have tags really, but we will file this as a request:

    For what it’s worth, meta keywords aren’t as important these days. You’re better off writing clear descriptions of what’s in the powerpoint and pdf documents, including what questions they answer, so that people can find you that way.

    And, while I’m sure there are plugins available that would let you add meta keywords, you’d need the Business Plan to add them, and to be frank I wouldn’t think it’s worth it unless you need plugins for other things. Let us know if you need more help with that.

    About the theme: yes it’s retired, meaning you won’t be able to use many of the features available to newer themes. But, you could still manually create the page you’re describing using pictures and links to the pages you like.
