Static Home Page – Sela
-
Hi guys,
I’m running the Sela theme and have my home page set as a blog roll.
I want to switch it to a static home page but I want to work on it behind the scenes and not switch it over until my new static page is ready. Is this possible? I just don’t want visitors to my site to see it in draft mode. Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You could create a new page and set it to use the front page template, but don’t assign it to be the homepage in your settings until you’re ready to launch. Not a perfect method, but a workaround that might work.

Thanks for this question and answer, Kathryn.
I have a similar dilemma. Using Motif theme, my website is careerwisdomcoach.com and I went back to use my blog as my landing page but want to set another page to do that.
Problems: I can’t remember how to do that.
And I no longer have a menu item of “blog”. How can I reinstitute the blog on the menu tab as well as have it as my landing page>
Thanks so much. -
@skylarliberty
Yes, you can add widgets to your hidden static front page.
Front Page template in Sela theme has three widget areas named First, Second and Third Front Page Widget Areas. You can find these widget areas on your Widgets dashboard screen at https://skylarlibertyrose.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

You can set your front page from the Reading Settings dashboard screen at https://careerwisdomcoach.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php
Let us know if your blog page doesn’t appear on the menu automatically after you set the Front page and Posts page.

skylarliberty –
So, I could assign widgets to it and do all the prep work that way?
Yep! Just make sure you don’t assign the front page template to your temporary static homepage.
careerwisdomcoach – could you please start your own thread instead of adding more replies so this doesn’t get confusing for the original poster? Thanks!
-
skylarliberty – you can also use widget visibility conditions if you need to temporarily hide footer widgets from your temporary homepage.

Thanks so much – on all counts! I will be tackling it tomorrow but really appreciate your help.

Thanks so much. I see what you are referring to and can set my front page as job search solutions but my posts don’t show as a page. How do I set up a new page that includes the blogs? It shows a new page as empty”?

> It shows a new page as empty”?
That’s how it should be :)WordPress only needs to know which is the posts page. WordPress will then automatically adds all your posts to that page while showing the page on your site, as you can see in your posts page: http://careerwisdomcoach.com/blog-job-search/
Feel free to ask if you have more questions, but on a new thread please. This will help not spam other users on this thread. Thank you!

careerwisdomcoach – please start a new thread if you need further help, as mentioned above.
