Static home(front)page
-
Hi peeps,
I am thinking of ‘changing’ my blog by adding a static homepage with my consisting blog (page), like is described here > https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
But I have two questions, the first: can I do this with my existing blog? The front page will be a gallery with all my patterns and on my blog page I want people to find the blogposts I’ve written so far and my future posts.
The second and more important question: does this static front page have a negative influence on how my content is found in for instance google. I don’t want my posted content to disappear from their hight ranking google search results. Now, most of my pictures show up somewhere at the top in google image search, will that stay unchanged for sure?
Hope someone can reassure me here!
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Good morning!
Before making sweeping changes, you might want to back up your pages by exporting them. If something goes terribly wrong you can at least return it all to where it is now by deleting whatever you did and importing them again. That procedure s covered here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ and here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/As far as changing your ranking on Google, i cannot answer that. However if you do want to do a complete makeover of your site, you should keep the information found in here in mind!
https://en.support.wordpress.com/seo/I know this is not reassuring, but i cannot speak for Google, or WordPress since i am trying to help you as a volunteer, not as a representative of either. I just like helping folks out!
Maybe someone from WordPress has insight on how changing your site affects SEO rankings?

Thanks Dave. I haven’t thought off backing up my content. Will do that for sure!
But erm, what I want to do feels to me like a simple change. All I want to do is change my existing pattern page into the static front page and have my blog posts in my existing menu under a ‘blog’ tap. I’m hoping I don’t need to move any content but only change the structure of my menu…but I don’t have much knowledge about this stuff….
The reason I am worried about my content loosing its high search ranks, is because long ago I read somewhere that content on pages works different with search engines. When my blog isn’t ‘home/ frontpage’ anymore but filed under a page I don’t know what happens.
