  … I’m sorry to say it didn’t work out. While the code, above, works in several browsers, it does not work in Mozilla browsers on Windows (where it produces a persistent line all the way across the window and which does not go away when scrolling).
  Back to square one.

  That’s interesting. The above CSS works for me in Firefox but not in Internet Explorer. I suspect this may be because of how z-index property works in IE but need to verify this assumption.

  Are you okay to consider other themes like Twenty Fifteen which have fixed menu on the left sidebar?

  Well, I may have to consider a fixed menu in the future, but I don’t really like the design of the available options in ‘Twenty Fifteen’ or similar responsive themes.
