Static Page
-
I think I may want to have a static front page. Before I devote too much time constructing it, I had a question. If I have a static front page, will my sidebars still show up there as well? Basically, is there any way possible to have a totally blank page? I know my sidebars are a little bulky, which I don’t mind at all for the blog- but if I were to have a static front page then there wouldn’t be a whole lot of room to work with, sort of defeating my purpose for having one. I have seen a few tutorials on static pages but none went into a whole lot of detail.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It depends on the theme. Most themes show sidebars on the static pages, but not all of them do. Kubrick, for instance, does not.
FYI changing to a static front page will definitely impair your ranking with search engines. They vastly prefer fresh content on the first page of a blog, not behind a static entry point. I had a friend who went from a top 3000 position on Technorati to something like 375,000th in one step by putting in a static front page.
