Static Page Problems
-
No, I talk of http://europejka.wordpress.com/. Everything ready, but doesn’t work: http://www.fotosik.pl/pokaz_obrazek/pelny/15e98278e724c9bd.html. I explained it earlier better – it doesn’t save a static page option!
-
I give up – it seems it is only my problem. I tried many themes and many configurations – I’m tired. Perhaps it is unsolvable.
Thanks everybody who cared to help me!!!

You may want to send in a feedback with specifc details. What browser, browser version and OS are you using anyway?
-
I’ve already send feedback and was said to go to this page: http://www.fotosik.pl/pokaz_obrazek/pelny/15e98278e724c9bd.html and save it, what I’ve already tried to do a thousand times perhaps. I tried IE, Opera and Firefox , which I’m using now. OS is Windows XP.
I think I’m not able to explain better my problem than in my feedback.
By the way, can you save “static page” in your blog? I can in non of my blogs – nor here: http://europejka.wordpress.com/, nor here: http://pinakoteka.wordpress.com/, nor http://przewodnik.wordpress.com/. It just doesn’t work. I thought it is WP problem, but I see from the support reaction that it is only my handicape.
Thank you for trying to help me…

Works fine for me. Just why I’m wondering if there’s something on your end.
What versions of those browsers are you running? Kind of important which is why I asked. Any security programs?
-
Newest version of Firefox and Opera, security: standard, even Internet security on medium level, nothing special. IE – 6.0. Not bad, I guess…
And it stays saved when you choose changing to static page? Doesn’t change to original “Your last posts” option like in case of my blog? And stays choosen? WOW. I’m broken ;(
But happy that everything works good for you. :)
-
With all due respect, ‘newest’ isn’t a version number. We just went through this 30 minutes ago where some said they had the lastest version when turns out they didn’t.
And the names of what security programs you’re running would be helpful as well.
-
I tried also from different computer – doesn’t work too, different OS (Windows 2000)
May be not newest, but this is the first case I cant do anything – Firefox 2.0.0.3 Opera 9.02
Antyvirus Avast – regular (mediun security). That’s all. I just don’t believe the difference betwee Opera 9.0 and Opera 9.02 may be the reason.

I’ve had this problem too. I looked up instructions and they directed me to to options that do not exist. So you’re not alone. I’m new to blogging, there has to be an easier way. I may change to another blog site.
-
This is not normal behavior. What options were you directed to that do not exist? Also, where is your blog? I don’t see one hosted at wordpress.com with your username.
-
Could you be more specific about your problem and include what browser and version you’re using and links to pages that you’re having the problem with? Also tell us if you’ve sent a feedback as recommended.
As you can see from previous posts in the thread, it is important in helping us solve the problem.

didixi, you should change your administrator interface language from pl-Polish to en-English. From some reason polish interface is broken in this particular option. I did it on my blog, and it worked for me.

Hi. I am having MAJOR trouble trying to develop a book-like blog. I am trying to follow your FAQ “How to write a book” but it look like it is severely outdated. For example, #4 says: Go to Options>Reading
Make “front” the front of the blog
Make “chapters” have all the postsWhat the? There’s nothing there on the Options>Reading that applies here. And then it blithely states “make 1 link to “index”…well, how am I supposed to do that?
This is really frustrating me. Does all this really have to be so difficult and cryptic to create a simple organized chapter-based set of entries? I mean, come on…really?
-
Blogs are not, of course, books. But this work around has been provided and it has worked for many other bloggers. I understand the instructions myself and I’m at a loss as to how to help you. I’m posting all the instructions here so you can let another blogger know exactly where you get hung up.
How to write a book
Almost. This shows you one way to write something that is chapter based.
A blog is a reverse chronological publishing tool. That’s what it is and to make it behave differently you will need to do some work yourself. You also need your readers to exercise some self-discipline.
Following this will produce a ‘front cover’, an ‘index’ and the actual work.
1. Create a page called “front”
2. Create a page called “index”
3. Create a page called “chapters”
4. Go to Options > Reading
Make “front” the front of the blog
Make “chapters” have the posts
5. On “front” make 1 link to “index”
6. Write a post – your Chapter 1. Publish it. Copy the URL of the post
7. Edit “index” and place a link to Chapter 1
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for each chapter
Recent Posts / Recent Comments and Archives widgets could let people move around more freely and could break the flow. You may want to remove them. You still need a link to the “index” – use a text widget for that link.
You could use Pages for the chapters instead of posts.
The names of those pages is optional of course.Options -> Reading
Front Page
Front page displays:
Your latest postsA static page (select below)
* Front page:
* Posts page:Create three pages -> Write -> Page (Front, Index and Chapters) and then follow the instructions. Also note that this is how to write a link http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/how-to-write-links/
