Static page questions…
-
I read the FAQ for the static pages but there are a few things I dont know; first of all is it kind of like a home page? I use the quinten theme and it would be kind of nice to make it look a little less dull (seeing as theres no custom header). second how do I set it up? I know where to go in options but I dont know what to do after that =p .

Depends what you mean by a home page. It’s a plain old web page that doesn’t update and generally contains information that doesn’t change over time. Once you create the page (under Write…Write Page instead of post, though) then you go to Options and set that as your static landing page.
It will slaughter your Technorati ranking, though, according to engtech.

Okay, here is where to create a static front page (see below).
I know it’s trendy but I do not recommend doing this.
Google uses the posts, comments and links on your front page to determine your page rank. Making a static front page means there’s nada to work with when it comes to calculating page rank.-> Options -> Reading
Reading OptionsFront Page
Front page displays:Your latest posts
A static page (select below)
* Front page:
* Posts page:Make your choice(s) and click Update Options to save when you are done.
