Static page text not showing
-
I watched the video from wordpress on how to set up a static page and did exactly what the person in the video did. I created a page and set it as my static page. I put the text I wanted in the textbox and published the page on public. So I go to the home page I created, and it has the header, which says “home.” But it doesn’t have any of the text I thought I put there at all. I’ve cleared my computer history and cache, I logged out and back in, I started over and made a new page just the same, trying again, but every time I go to my blog, the home page, it has everything right except the text I typed isn’t there. Help???
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The videos which are ubiquitous online are almost all for WordPress.ORG software installs and you have a wordPress.COM hosted blog.
This isn’t rocket science. ;) What you need to do is create not one but two Pages because you need one to have your posts display on as well as one for the front page.
You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page.
(2) A static front page and posts on a different page.By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.
To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

timethief Thanks so much! I finally got it figured out and have the two pages set up. BUT The word posts is on my home page now but it won’t let me click it, it’s just plain text. I’ve set it up to where you should be able to click it but for some reason it’s not. However if I type in /posts after my blog address it will take me there, but the button on the homepage isn’t working. Also, my text for my homepage that I wanted as my welcome message still isn’t showing up.

You’re welcome. Please don’t bump your thread here by posting into it again because it’s not in your best interest to post to it after it has been tagged for Staff help. Doing that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response from Staff.

Hi there,
First off, I love what your page will hopefully become! I have loved Willow since I was a kid.
OK, moving on. ;)
You have set everything up almost perfectly. The only thing that is throwing a wrench in the gears is that the theme you chose has a specific Home Page template which removes all text from the page and instead shows an image.
You can undo that by changing the template for your “Home” page (by going to Pages >> All Pages >> Home >> Edit >> Change the template on the far right side from Home Page to Default >> click Update). This should allow your home page to display correctly.
Alternatively you can choose a different theme for your site.
Let me know if you have any questions, I’ll be happy to help!

Thanks! and that’s awesome! :) My older sister loved it when she was little and one day about a year ago I discovered it in with our movies and watched it and fell in love :3
anyways, haha
I just went in to fix it and noticed you were working on it already. Thanks so much! :)

Yep, I wanted to test it to make sure I was right. ;)
So feel free to check the home page now. The text is showing up fine, but you would want to change your background or something because it’s a bit hard to read.
However at least you’ve got a functioning home page!
