Static Pages vs Changing Content?
-
Hello all, I am new to WordPress and decided that I would just add some pages to my blog and turn my blog into a site.
I just found out that pages are static, and I can’t categorize, or apparently, archive pages.
I have revolving content that I update weekly, such as book reviews, and “today in history” type content that changes every week. Each of these is on a page and I can’t archive or categorize these. So if I want to keep what I’ve already written, it looks like I have to move the previous content down on the page to make room for another entry.
I really want to be able to at least archive my revolving content. Is it possible to have more than one blog page on my site? Can I start a second blog page and use it for reviews, a third for my historical facts, and so on?
Or, if anyone knows of another way to make this work, I would really appreciate any help that is offered.
Thank you!
Shannon

Hi Shannon,
You can set pages as either static or blog through the customize menu (option for Static front page). You can only have one primary blog page, but you can set up categories for your posts which then archive to their own separate pages. Here is some more info on categories:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/This way you’re front page will either be static or show all posts (see more about front page here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/) and then you’ll have a sidebar for categories such as historical facts, reviews, etc. You just need to categorize your posts and set a menu. If you want to use a custom menu you can see the docs here for more info:

Let me know if this doesn’t answer your question. Happy blogging!

Pages are really not the best option for what you’re doing. Also keep in mind that pages are not as effectively indexed by search engines as posts, so you’re really shooting yourself in the foot here.
Having each category appear on its own page, as @sfarley85 mentions, is called category pages. Using category pages will, I think, give you the effect you’re looking for while making things much easier for you. See these links for detailed information on using category pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/

Thanks so much for your comments! I will look further into your suggestions when I get a chance, and hopefully find my solution!
