static web page, blogs only in archives
-
Here is the Word Press web site in question: http://bowopenspaces.com/
It has a static front page as desired. This was made using these instructions found in WP: http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page
A second page was set up as instructed: “News”.
However, the blogs only show in archives – look for most recent there, May, 2013. How do I set up for the most recent readily visible with a link to archives.
I could not find permalink anywhere in settings – which must be critical (I’m using a Mac – but that has nothing to do with this issue I’m guessing?)
I did not set up the blog in the first place. Here’s what the individual who did said:
“So, what that means is: some larger organizations actually install WordPress on their own server and are capable of doing much more. We simply use WordPress via its server, and that’s appropriate for us.”
Does this have any bearing? I’m not sure of WP version because of this. (I clicked ‘other’)
I’m not code savvy and am looking for a simple solution. Thanks.

The codex is for WordPress>ORG installs.
The support documentation here applies to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs.

You cannot change permalink structure on any free hosted WordPress.com blog.
Please read the differences here > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Please be sure you fully understand the differences between Pages and Posts. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.
To do that create two pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

Hi timethief –
“After making these changes, posts will no longer show on the front page of your blog. The static page “Home” will show there. Visitors will need to click on the link to “Posts” page to see your posts”.
I did the above but I don’t get/see a link to “Posts” (which I’ve named “News”)….? About/home page remains the same, no inkling of where posts/news might reside.

I’ve read some of the links (almost info overload:) – mostly have learned there’s a lot I don’t know…
I see I have created a news “place” thru the link directly above but how does a casual visitor to the web site even know it exits? I see no sign to that end. One would have to peruse archives to “stumble upon” BOS fresh blogs.

You’re using a custom top menu. You need to go to Appearance > Menus and add the “News” page to the menu.
