Stationary embedded link on home page

  • Unknown's avatar

I’d like to be able to add a link to something that always appears on my home page and each blog post I make. Is that possible?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Can you please give an example of what you’re looking to do? I went and checked out your page but wasn’t able to solve the riddle quite yet.

    Hi,

    Sorry I wasn’t clear.

Other than on the Home page, on each of the subsequent blog post pages I would like to add some text with a link, above the Search widget on the left sidebar.

Example: “Click here for a free guide: Example Link”

I.e., put this line above the Search widget on the left sidebar so that it carries through and is on every blog post page.

I hope this makes sense. How would I do this?

    Thank you.

That does make more sense. Looks like your search widget is located in your sidebar. Do you know how to edit your Single Post Template in the Site Editor? Depending on your theme, that’s likely going to be the way to do it.

I am brand new to WP and have never used the Site Editor before. I will look into it though and see what I can do. It may take me a while though.

Thank you for your help up to this point!

And I’m new to helping on here, so new experience for both of us!

The Site editor is really quite intuitive and the official documentation is very thorough. I can continue to help if you need it.

Since I can’t see your site, this is purely off the top of my head, but should get us close:

Go to your Dashboard and under “Appearance,” click “Editor.”

The page should have a dropdown on the top center of the page. Click that and “Browse all templates.”

On the list of templates, find “Single Post.”

You should see your layout there with the sidebar on the left. You can add additional blocks to the layout from the Block Inserter on the top left.

You can try the Navigation Block or the HTML block if you know how to create a link in HTML. If not, I can probably help there too.

I figured it out a different way!

I went to the Widgets function, and added a “Paragraph” Block at the bottom via the “+” sign, put in the text and link that I wanted, and then “moved” the Block up to be at the very top of the left sidebar, above the Search function.

You can see it here at the top-left:

    Dream of The Narrow Way…

I think I am done for now. Thank you for all your help. While I didn’t edit the template, I may have to do that in the future and now I have more info about that if/when needed.

    Thanks again, God bless!

Nice work! Glad you got it!

One thing to test: Create a new post and see if the link shows up on the sidebar for you. If not, then template editing may be necessary. But you’ve already figured out how to edit the sidebar, so it’ll just be the same process, only on the template itself.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try it out and it is still there in my sidebar.

    Really appreciate all your help.
