Statistics about clicks on embedded videos

Story: I often use embedded youtube videos to clarify a point or give background information.
My statistics show next to no clicks on these videos, so the content does probably not reach my readers.
If I read a blog myself, I often do not watch embedded videos either. It seems like a big switch for my brain to go from reading to video watching and back, and it feels like skipping the videos means saving a lot energy.
But I want to make sure, so
Question: Do the statistics show a click on the youtube-domain every time someone starts a video, or only when they elect to watch it in the youtube environment?
And: What are your experiences? Do you embed videos on your blogs? Do your readers watch them? Do you watch embedded videos?
