statistics counter not working properly

Something is wrong with the statistics page. I had 7 new likes from new people and none were registered as views or visitors. For the last month, my blog readers has grown but it shows next to no views, so there is an issue with the statistics counter. I just wanted to let you know.

Hi there! It sounds like while you may have more readers, they’re not visiting your site. One way that you can help this by changing your emails and feeds to include only an excerpt of your post. This way, to read the whole post, your readers will visit your site:

You’ll want to change “For each article in a feed, show” to “Summary”

Okay, I will try that. It is just strange that they clicked on the site before but after one of the WordPress app updates, suddenly my readership showed going from 10-20 views a day average to next to none. I thought maybe something had changed, started doubting my writing, etc. But at the same time, I would get a lot of likes and new blog followers. So I wasn’t sure what was going on, figuring the statistics were not clicking right maybe? I am trying your suggestion and will see what happens.

As far as I know, there haven’t been any recent issues with our stats. It could be that with the latest app update, many of your readers decided they liked reading posts in the Reader.
If your stats still look off after switching to truncated posts, let me know. :)

OK, will do. The only thing so far is that 1 viewer had 10 views of the same post. Could be user error. Lol :)

Could be! We also don’t update the stats in real time, so your “visitors” number may flesh out a bit before the end of the day. :)

No, it’s still acting wrong. There were 8 people from Facebook who viewed the blog, and I know they are not “followers” of my blog and it still counted visitors as 1. And there was in addition, a new visitor who became a “follower” of my blog who wasn’t counted for his view, but maybe once they become a “follower”, their previous view is discounted? It’s just weird all of a sudden. But maybe it’s just mine and everyone else’s is working well. It is a source of frustration, but I will continue to write and try my best to ignore the stat feedback that threatens to dampen my spirits. lol :) Thanks for your help. :)

There were 8 people from Facebook who viewed the blog
I imagine you’re getting this number from Facebook? Can you tell me specifically what stat you’re looking at? If you mean that your post has eight shares on Facebook, those people didn’t need to visit your site to share your post.
We don’t discount viewers if they become a follower. But readers can become followers of your site without visiting your actual site by following you in the Reader:

Stats are always going to be a little inaccurate because of the way the internet works. We try our best to show you an accurate count of the people who visit and view your site though!

Under “Referrers”, it said 8 views on facebook and 2 views from search engine and 1 person liked my post and became a ” follower”. So, it had a total of 10 views and 1 visitor. I just thought that was strange and and am trying to figure it out, especially because my readership was so much higher before. With 171 “followers” now, I would think my views would be going up. I am gaining followers regularly but my views will still say 0. I changed it to “summary” per your suggestion. It was just odd because of such a difference. I didn’t know if it was my writing or something else changed or whatever. I guess I am just overthinking it. Sorry to take up so much of your time. Thanks for helping. :)

Thanks for explaining! I understand what you’re looking at now. And I do see the recent dip in your stats overall. I’m honestly not sure what could have caused that. I haven’t seen other recent reports of issues with stats, which means it’s likely not a recording issue.

I have exactly the same problem on my blog ohror.wordpress.com . Since may 6th my readership has declined even though I have more and more likes. It’s really weird.

Nope, back to the weird stats. So be it. I will keep writing because more people are reading each day. Not because I can see them through the stats counter but becausemore and moreare “following” my blog. Best of luck! :)

I also have a similar issue: almost everyday I see 1 visitor and 8 visits, always on the same posts. It can’t be that there is someone who reads always the same posts everyday…
