how come every time i set my blog to public, the stats disappear??? i changed the public/private settings twice, and the stats disappeared twice. i’m obviously more interested in stats when the blog gets public, you know?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The only stats you’ll see when a site is private are your own visits and those of people you’ve invited to view the site, if any.

I’ve not heard previously that stats reset themselves when you make your site public, so I’ve tagged this for Staff attention in case there is a known issue.

  • Hi there,

On which site is this? The privacy settings on elliottsmithgallery.wordpress.com was last changed in November last year, but I can see stats going back all the way to October when the site was created.

Changing the privacy settings of a site should not have any effect on stats aside from the fact that it will no longer record your own views once it’s not private.

    it’s my “secondary” WP:
    https://soflawedanddrunkandperfectstill.wordpress.com/
i set it to public 3 days ago. zero stats. it’s very likely that no one has actually been visiting, because i’m not advertising it at all, but i don’t even see my own presence on it? the same problem occurred when i first set it to public last week. the stats reappeared when i returned to private. except i’m not really interested in my own visits stats :

  • The stats on that site hasn’t been reset. All your historical stats are still visible. There’s just not any new views being recorded because, as you said, no one would visit it if they don’t know it exists, and your own views are not counted any more once the site is set to public.

The moment other people start visiting your site, stats for those views will start showing up. To test this, view your site in an incognito window in Chrome, click on a few pages, then go back to a logged in view and view your stats. You should see some views recorded for your incognito session in Chrome.

  • You’re very welcome :)

thank you! i know i should advertise all over social media, but on the other hand, i exported my work to WP because i was growing very tired of social media, so zero traffic is a new experience in zen. i’m not entirely opposed to the zero traffic experience (for a little while anyway! ) . thank you for your help! :)

  • Worrying about traffic can be exhausting. On my personal site I’m more of the if you write it, they will come persuasion :)

    Glad I could help.

I share the same login email/password with a friend. We are one, joined super admin. I was able to see when he read different posts as they were noted in stats. Out of nowhere, he is reading my posts and I have no notification of visitors or views. Is it a setting that was changed or is there something I can do to make sure the super admin’s views are logged?

Can you please start your own thread on this, and include your site’s address as I can’t check the stats if I don’t know of what site you’re speaking.

You can use this link to start a new thread:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

Add “modlook” as a tag and we’ll help you there.

I’m closing this thread as the original issue has been resolved.
