Add topic to favorites
One of the best things about using wordpress is the access to the stats. I will admit I check these more than I should. As a poet, knowing my audience and what they’re looking for is an important addition to the creative process. As Google continues to encrypt more and more of its searches, the “search terms as poem prompts” idea has lost most of its lustre.
But I am confused as to why stats for what people are searching for ON MY SITE are not available. Wouldn’t this be useful for bloggers to know? And wouldn’t it be easy for wordpress to compile?
Regardless of whether this change is ever implemented I will continue to use wordpress–it is a fantastic blogging host. But seeing as they often make changes that make me very happy, maybe they could make just this one?

When Google encrypts the search terms – they do not pass anything that WordPress.COM can use – you can signup for Google Webmaster Tools and see some of the search terms – but not as easy to use for me

My request isn’t that wordpress somehow make Google unencrypt its search terms, but that when people use the little search box on my site (not on Google), that they record THAT data.

Thank you for your help! I have tried to use Google Webmaster Tools before, but unfortunately it’s also not easy for me. I need more techie friends. :)

Thanks for that clarification. I’ve reported to our developers your feature request to report any terms entered into a site’s search widget.

Make sure to subscribe to this thread, I’ll report back here if that feature becomes available.

Thank you so much! I have indeed subscribed to this topic and added it to my favorites and will check back here on occasion.

I hope the developers can see the value added in providing this feature. As it is, the search terms information available lets you know how someone stumbled onto your blog.
If the search widget terms were available that would reveal what the people who already have found your blog want to read or reread.
