Stats and Analytics

This seems to be the only way to get in touch with WordPress staff, so I’ll just write my question here. I was wondering if there are any plans to include a better statistic package soon or allowing Google Analytics at some point? I know it’s not allowed now. As someone who is using this for professional purposes and wants to be part of the WordPress community (so .org doesn’t help me), I find your statistics pretty bad. Knowing the I have visits from the US is okay, but what states, what cities? Am I drawing local traffic as well as national traffic? What pages are being viewed and by whom? Your statistics aren’t complete by any means and don’t help anyone trying to use this for more professional purposes, which is what you try to market yourself as compared to Tumblr and other sites. Yet those sites allow for better analytic programs. I and so many others think you need to fix this. From the looks of it, this is by far and away one of the most covered topics in the forum.

There has been no announcement or indication of any kind whatsoever that this is being considered.

I know, it’s saddening. Hoping that a staff member will see this eventually, so maybe they start considering it more.

Thanks raincoaster. I’ve spoken to others that use the site for similar purposes as myself and I know they’re looking for the change too. Hopefully something will be done to make the analytics better. I know it’s possible with a little work, coding or something.

There are third party non-Javascript stats programs you can use that provide some additional information.
Sitemeter and Statcounter may interest you. -
Haven’t heard of Sitemeter, but I’m using Statcounter currently. Seems like a good program, but my numbers there are different then the WordPress’s stats. Not sure how accurate the numbers are. It’s better then nothing though.

In short, if WP was going to do this, they would have by now. It seems fairly obvious they have no intention of doing so.

If any company is pressured enough by it’s customers to provide a service they eventually will. Other sites will catch up and people will move their sites. WordPress will if we all ask them to enough and they believe it’s something they need to do.

I have been using Sitemeter since before WordPress.com blogs, which not commercial in nature even had a stats program.
This is what I get from sitemeter on my wordpres.COM blog:Recent Visitors by Visit Details

This is something that is on our (very long) list, but as you can probably imagine, we have many items on that list!
We continue to look into it, however, and do appreciate the feedback, especially with specific reasons included (like yours).
