Stats and Domain Mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently purchased the domain mapping upgrade and have since then noticed a significant drop in my stats shown to me in the dashboard. If someone visits my page directly via the new domain (wvpolitics.info) is it still being counted in my stats? Any info on stats and domain mapping would be great, I have been unable to find any…

    Thanks in advance!

All stats is there. (Post more.)
    According to Support Documentations:

    If you add domain
mapping to an existing blog with
    posts, their URL’s will change.
We’ll redirect any visitors looking for the old URL’s over to the new ones, so none of your visitors will get lost out there on the internet, but other services won’t always understand that the old links and the new links point to the “same” place. For example, Tweet counter widgets work based on particular URL’s, so old posts’ counts will be reset to 0. Once you make the change, future posts will not be affected.

    Ahem.

I was the first person on WP.com to get a unique domain name, and yes, there’s an associated drop in stats. That happens because you’ve got a new address with zero pagerank, and all your new incoming links are going to that address, so people stop linking to your old address. That causes it to lose pagerank. So you’ve got one address starting at zero and growing, and one whose googlejuice is seeping away.

It’s painful, but it lasts about four months and then you should be back where you were before. Overall, you’re going to be better off in the long run with a unique domain name.
