Stats and How many hits/day

I am pretty sure the daily stats show how many individual hits my website has had, but I am confused when I see the break-down by post. For example, I’ve had “26 views today.” Does that mean 26 different people visited my site today, or as the breakdown puts it, “Cute is a girl’s…” post had 14 views and my “homepage” had 12 views? Or is that just showing which posts were more popular? Or does the 26 views include the same people just viewing my site over and over again? Sorry I cannot figure it out!

As far as I know it is the number of “page hits” you’ve had. I wish there was a way (maybe there is) of knowing how many visitors the site had.

Sitemeter.com will tell you how many visitors per day. There are others too.

Essentially, I ignore “Home Page” hits when I am looking at WP stats, as all the articles on my home page have a “more” tag. I take the view they landed on my home page, but view the rest of the stats as being what people read. But that is purely my personal perspective for my own site.

@swoopingcurve – Quantcast will also give you some info on your site:

HOWEVER: your site loads slow like a fat pig – that will turn off most of your visitors – use the more tag to split your posts to make your front page load faster – most people have only 3 or 4 seconds worth of patience to let the page load before they dump the page and leave. Your returning regular visitors will also be forced to load a big front page each time also.

@auxclass – missed the “Deliver bad news nicely” class this morning, did you? Good advice, of course, but OUCH!

Oh, and how do I get quantcast to recognise I’m alive without wordpress in my url now? Please? :)

@teamoyeniyi – sorry but I have insomnia and usually beat the alarm up by two or three hours leaves me a bit grumpy – – also slow loading sites looking for more visitors is sort of a non-starter in my book – after reading some of the advice here I took a meat ax to my loading times – pictures all shrunk and the files smaller – cropped etc – read more – one picture with a short intro for each Article (Post) –

Yes I still owe you the look back in the archives to see how I got Quantcast on my mapped site –

    I was just teasing you, you know. Insomnia is a b i a t c h.

No rush, but I thought it was you who mentioned you’d had a problem. :) Thanks in advance!

thank you all for your advice! i really appreciate it and will definitely work on improving my site’s load time. could i also change the amount of posts per page to cut down on load time? like put one or two entries per page? or do all the pictures make it slow no matter what?
