Stats and other suggestions
-
First off, the stats should do a lot more than it does now.
Because we cannot use other websites like Google Analytics for our own statistics management the stats provided by WP.com should have more features to able to replace other websites like Google Analytics.
For 1 I would like to see average time on page, depth of visit (how many pages visited) and most popular pages (so far I only see yesterday and todays) it would be nice to see the overall most popular pages.
The other features it would be great to see is allowing users to install plugins made for WP.org onto WP.com. There are thousands of plugins which WP.com users miss out on and I don’t think this should be the case. If there could be a way where users would select the plugins and WP.com would take care of the process of sorting and placing the files into specific folders without the users doing it themselves this would open a lot of doors for WP.com users.
Thank you,
Marat Levit

That second suggestion is labour-intensive enough that I cannot for the life of me see it being integrated into a free service. And if you’re going to pay, you might as well go independent and use whatever you want.

Re: plugins
I’m not sure if you understand that wordpress.com software and wordpress.org software are different. Although any blogger can remain on this wordpress.com software ie. wp MU (wordpress.com multiuser) where all the geekery is done for us, and we do not have to be savvy about coding, etc. many bloggers choose to move to another hosting situation and install the free standing version of wordpress.org software. The wp developers are of course aware of this pattern so assigning wp.com staff to spend the kind of time you suggest to achieve what you want by re-inventing the wheel doesn’t seem sensible from a “business” perspective. I do expect that better stats will be offered in the future to those who are willing to pay for upgrading. Also I don’t think you appreciate that all the widgets that have been developed for wordpress.com have not been coded to run on free standing wordpress.org software and made available to wordpress.org bloggers. As devil’s advocate I see that there seems to be a one way flow of the technology directed to this “fork”, rather than a two way flow. And I’m wondering why that is.

Yeah I understand where you guys are coming from. I was just hoping that maybe there was going to be some development with the plugins because this would really boost WP.com if users could use WP.org plugins or maybe even make it so that plugins can be made specifically for WP.com.
But the stats I would like to see an improvement on them since we can’t use any other services.

I hear ya on the stats. And since they’re running Google Analytics on our blog anyway, it’s not like they don’t have that information already.
I don’t think they want to have WP.com as a real competitor to WP independent. By saying No, you can’t have anything fancy or make money they are essentially driving the high-maintenance clients to self-hosted, which keeps WP.com small and manageable from a staffing perspective. I’m not sure why they have WP.com except as a showcase and rival to Blogger, actually. Gift horse and all…

OOPS! We forgot to say that the process staff have in place for requesting new features is to send the ideas to them.

Idea / Request: Could it be possible to get whole year or at least 6 months stats one day?
-
I did find a way to get daily totals from here:
http://internetducttape.com/tools/wordpress/Which is to check them here:
http://m.wordpress.com/What the future may hold is unknown .
-
Have you asked staff? The process for asking for new features is to ask staff and to provide reasons when you ask http://wordpress.com/contact-support/
-
Did not kind of mean that kind of stats – I ment stats that they just provided us (22.), but I tought this forum was for ideas?! So I posted here for that. Well they must have had the idea already in progress…

The new stats feature is great (though I still miss my feed stats, lol). If you want to break it down into more individual posts, you can click on Top Posts and in the address bar you should see “7&blog”. Change the 7 to, say, 100 and it’ll retrieve stats for past 100 days. It works for search terms as well, which is useful.

Talk about stats, is there anyway where we can get to see where the visitors are coming from? I.e, which country and IP Address?
-
No. That information is not available at wordpress.com at this time. You can however have a sitemeter if you wish. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/28/can-i-have-a-statcounter-on-my-blog/

Go to Clustrmaps’ site (google it) and they’ve got an HTML version of their widget that you just put into a text widget in your sidebar. It’s quite cool and easy to use. I can’t recall if there’s a signup or not, but if there is, just use a dummy/spamcatcher email for that. I’ve never gotten an email from them.
