Stats ARE counting my visits

I like to see how many hits my blog gets every day.
Also, every now and then I sign out to view my blog, so I can see if things work out like the password protection I use for some pages.

At first, I was always happy to see I had so many hits, it seemed that people always found my blog around the time I was working on it.

Soon enough I realized it was counting MY visits. A quick test proved my theory. Besides, I also use a external stats site. This one obviously doesn’t count my own pageloads since there are way less visitors, according to it.

This shouldn’t be happening, should it? Anyone has a solution?

According to staff, if you are logged into your account, it will NOT count your visits, but if you are logged out, it MIGHT count your views.

    ok, I see.
I guess they don’t just block the IP address then?

I’ll just use the other counter then, and only look at the WP stats if I want to feel good about myself ;-)

Correct. Because IP addresses change, and many people can use a single IP address.

The stats count my visits even when I am logged into my WP account.

This is regardless of whether I’m using IE, Firefox or Chrome, and it’s regardless of whether I view the site in the same tab or a new tab.

I truly wish I just had something like Awstats to look at instead of WP’s stats. There’s several free software options though (common in shared web hosting settings). Hopefully the WP staff will install one (or more) of those, and not try to tweak them into a WP “version” of something that works fine as-is.

I’ve stopped looking at my WP stats, they just seem useless.

(And I do wish we could just specify IP’s to block too, it doesn’t get much simpler than filtering your own home and work IP’s.)
