Stats auto-update frequency
-
My stats page ( https://wordpress.com/stats/day/wheelgun.wordpress.com ) is “auto-updating” every 3 minutes. Is there a way to turn this off or change the refresh interval?
This seems extreme, since I can refresh whenever I need to. Or once every 10 or 15 minutes seems sufficient.

I do not know of any way to do that. Let’s ask Staff to assist you with sorting this out. I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. Please post this specific info for Staff here:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/ -
It isn’t exactly causing me any problems. It is just an on-going crusade to convince people in the TECH industry that not everyone has unlimited internet connections.
When I first moved into my current house, I had a metered internet connection that cost more than you pay for your cellphone and I had SEVERE data restrictions. I could use a lot of data between midnight and 5 am but the rest of the day I had very tight caps. Leaving something like that on would have made a noticeable bite in my data allowance.
People in tech need to build systems that work for everyone. Those on satellite internet can’t stomach an “oh, let’s update every 3 minutes because why the hell not? What difference could it possibly make?
When Microsoft decided to pre-load most of Windows 10 on PC without asking or letting me schedule it (let me decline? they know best!) they blew through close to half of a months data allocation because doing it at 3 PM was more convenient for them than doing it at 3AM.
Stop thinking that everyone has unlimited bandwidth. (The people 2 miles up the road from me are STILL dependent on either incredibly slow DSL or bandwidth constrained satellite connections, and will be for the foreseeable future.
So yes. They next time you iterate on stats, consider that you should be considerate.

Thanks for that. Do you leave the stats page open for a long time?
I’d imagine if we increased the interval without some control over its settings, we’d get complaints from folks who want to see their stats update constantly.
