Stats charts

I’d contact staff directly on that. It’s probably a browser issue they’ll need to work around. Which browser are you using?

I’m going over 100,000 this week and it will look so good in the new stats! I’m so giddy about passing that milestone. What a milestone. I like the looks of the new stats. It’s easier for me read.

What is needed is not a popup, but a simple figure that appears on the right hand side of the chart. To make it look nice, a dotted line could run from the day-point concerned to the right hand side, with the number tacked onto the end. like this
    ————————————————> 40

In any case, the figure it shows is not “views per day” (which would be an average over time), but just “views”

  • The “views per day” popup should only appear when you mouse over a data point. Is it occurring at other times?

We’ll look at improving minor cosmetic things once the new object is bedded in and working well.

I have no idea what the “lost forever” comment is referring to – no stats have been lost or changed. This latest chart change affects only the way charts are displayed, not the data. And one of the reasons we’ve made the change is so that we can improve stats in future.

Teelyworth, I think the comment was a reference to the announcement which was a sticky here not more than a week ago stating that if the stats were fluctuating it was due to a live-test being made and that a nesw stats features would be rolled out in “a week – or so”… Lots of people then noticed that their stats were unusually low and were anxious as to whether their data was safe or not. rjjrdq might just be one of those who’ve had problems with their stats recently… Is today’s cosmetic change the cause of all this trouble?

    > ” The “views per day” popup should only appear when you mouse
    > over a data point. Is it occurring at other times?”

It appears when the mouse is anywhere near a data point, say within about a centimeter, and it then covers the other data points, and jiggles around like crazy as the mouse moves. When you get it to stay still, it is covering the graph line so that one cannot simultaneously see “what was it on Tuesday?” and “was that more or less than Saturday Sunday Monday?”

Running the mouse along the line to get a review of totals for the last few days is more difficult, because the popup gets in the way of finding the next data point.

I also get the funnny little shake during the “loading data”, but I can live with that

I’m using firefox on a win2000 computer, thus without turbo

Just a precision : I find the new graph cool, my stats are ok, Im not at all complaining here. I just find it weird that an annoucement over a new exciting stats feature was made and then romed, without an explanation, that’s all.

I meant “and then removed”, and I meant “tellyworth”, sorry.

  • Today’s change is cosmetic only – the new feature causing the fluctuations was the Time Zone feature.

The tooltip is smaller now. We’ll work on more improvements – the new flash object is, well, new.

I have lost stats on at least one day I had 161 hits on my busiest day and now it has changed to 111 hits as being my busiest day- it is for the same day. It just changed from 161 to 111 and it never went back! What does that mean?

  • Unknown's avatar

@ tellyworth, Thanks for the smaller tooltip box. It still obscures parts of the graph. Is it possible to place a stationary box at the upper right of the graph that shows the date and hits as one mouses over a data point [thereby not hiding any part of the curve]? Thanks! –jim

I think the new stats look great, but if it’s a matter of making the box smaller, why not take out the “Views Per Day” text from the box — it’s already in the top left corner — and leave just the number attached to the cursor?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @jalexartis : I love your idea!

@tellyworth: oh my! I didn’t realise it was the feature we were expecting!! I guess I didn’t pay that much attention cos Im on GMT time anyway…Thanks for telling me!

  • Unknown's avatar

The stats are pretty messed up.

    “Busiest day: 1,019 — Monday, May 11, 2009”
The stat chart says 828 hits on the busiest day.

maybe because the stats are now updated in our individual time zones so before the stats were at GMT and depending on your time zone the day might end earlier or before that. Thats my Out of the Air explanation for the change, but I haven’t kept track of my number so I don’t know lol.

  • Unknown's avatar

But that wouldn’t change the overall views! Over the past 3 days or so, since the implementation of the new flash chart, my most viewed page has changed numbers, risen and then dropped. That doesn’t make sense. Isn’t it cumulative?

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t know but now my stats have been stuck for an hour or so. And I don’t know why today, but I feel as though looking at my stats is very important right now lol

  • Unknown's avatar

I am on a small eeepc screen and therefore have to keep the widgets on the left minimised, since the new chart was introduced, a mouseover the widgets expands them behind the chart instead of in front of the chart. Certainly something I can live with.

Also I lost 17,000 hits in the last couple of hours ????

Also it would be great to get the Stats in a RSS feed – easier when on the mobile phone…

Still grumbling about that jiggley popup on the stats graph. As jalexartis said, it would be much improved by simply removing the text “stats per day” and leaving the number. Then it would not cover so much of the graph.

I wish. I prefer a fixed location [upper right-hand corner] with date & hits. –jim
