Stats Classics: How to set?
-
It doesn't look like timestamps were available on Likes or Follows in the previous version of notifications. I don't know if we'll add timestamps for Likes/Follows, but I'll raise the question regarding comments! There were elapsed times shown, but not on the archive at https://wordpress.com/notifications, which us all we we are left with.
If you make all the corrections necessary for success we will be back where we started.

Could someone explain how to get to the old Stats now that WordPress has deleted the link that allowed us to switch over? And, man, what a laugh that they are calling the new crude mess “Enhanced Stats.” Someone should write a satiric piece for The Onion. Sent from my iPhone

How can I set my page so that I always have the “classics” Stats page?
There are two old Stats pages and they are both available from the classic dashboard. You can go directly to the classic dashboard by logging in here: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?.
The old Stats pages are
1. https://YourWeirdWebsiteName.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats (really old, “classic”). Link is found in the dashboard admin panel in the “Dashboard” drop-down menu (clock symbol).
2. https://wordpress.com/my-stats/ (kinda old, “super classic”). The link is found in the dashboard navigation menu, in the website title drop-down menu.
Or just add a bookmark to a bookmarks toolbar.

Thank you, but it’s the version with the countries map/breakdown etc. — the good, most recent version of Stats before the mayhem — that I’m after.
-
Click https://wordpress.com/my-stats/
then click the summaries link in the Views by Country module

I fail to understand why no one cared to consider those of us who were satisfied with the status quo…..apparently we didn’t and don’t matter.
-
Given all the recent downgrades, is anyone considering a different blogging platform and if so, what do you recommend?
-hopelessly frustrated

I have to agree with everything that’s been said so far about the new stat page. It is terrible and hardly worth looking at.
I liked the summary page, the visitors and view information clearly visible. I liked the map (still there but have to scroll waaaaaaay down to get it.
Much nicer to look at when it was all viewable on the screen at the same time instead of scrolling forever to see everything.
Just a pain and agree with everyone that says it’s a downgrade! It wasn’t broken before so did not need “fixing”!

Latest post about the notification area and as it seems also some words about the recent changes in general.
I need to quote some stuff from there…
If you’ve been tuning in to Hot Off the Press, you’ll know about recent updates to the WordPress.com interface along with some fantastic technical upgrades.
That alone is already a gag, because the changes are so blatant that you don’t need to read a blog post about it, logging in to wordpress.com is way enough to notice what happened to a once very nice blogging platform.
To continue the momentum, we’ve introduced more interactive and robust notifications throughout WordPress.com. (Coming soon to a Jetpack blog near you.) Keep an eye on the new interface and let us know what you think!
The momentum… ok. Good to know that some of the changes come to selfhosted sites if they have the jetpack installed. First thing I will do this evening is uninstalling the jetpack from my uncle’s companies site so that his site backend doesn’t suffer as well. As someone who does manage the sites of my uncle’s company, it’s a step I have to take to garant the best usability.
Why the change?
We care about giving our users a streamlined and consistent experience across their devices. Unlike the old design, our new notifications look practically identical whether you are looking at them on a computer or on your Android or iOS device.
How much they care, we saw it over the last month. As desktop users hate the changes, the mobile users are the only ones they care about.
I am not sure if we are the target group that would need streamlined stuff. But that only proves where they see their future target group. What makes the new interface better?
The new look has been completely redesigned to emphasize simplicity and usability on touch devices such as tablets and smart phones. But don’t worry, desktop users — you can still use keyboard shortcuts to get through your list quickly.
Haha, don’t worry desktop users, you can still use desktop shortcuts… no words. This proves what I thought since the changes became apparent. I better keep my thoughts private.

I love that bit about ‘don’t worry desk top users etc. etc.” For desk top users they have turned the product into an obstacle course!

I can’t keep up with all the feedback, but if we’re going to be forced to use the new stats page, which we are:
The newer pages are preferred, and constructive feedback about them helps us make those pages better. Moving forward is better in the long term.
My biggest feedback/criticism is that losing the visitors/views overlay is a major negative. Being able to compare the two at a glance is incredibly valuable.
I also can’t figure out how to get to the old Summary Tables page (my-stats/?view=table). If that’s gone, that’s another problematic and troubling loss.
-
In addition to the broader my-stats/?view=table, I can’t access any of the other old table pages without going through the classic dashboard: my-stats/?view=clicks&summarize&numdays=30
Advice? This might be a sticking point on whether I try and stay with wordpress or seek alternatives that allow me to see this kind of historical data.

How about this: design something on a desktop FOR a desktop. An interface designed for a 9″ touchscreen fails miserably on a large monitor.
Give us more columns to work with.
Stop pandering to the one iPhone photo a day microbloggers and give your core users an efficient interface.
If you can’t do that, then could you at least spare WordPress.org from the inane changes and inferior interface?
I once had a self-hosted site; I appreciated the flexibility, the variety of fantastic themes to chose from, and the ability to tinker and customize to my heart’s content, though in truth I wasn’t terribly inclined to mess around with the site. WordPress.com offered much of the functionality of a WordPress.org site, albeit at the cost of flexibility, with the benefits of a free site on a stable host.
The new user interface is a disaster that detracts from the user experience. WordPress.com is clearly aiming at a different audience these days at our expense.
I’d be quite willing to stay if WP offered me the ability to easily access the old dashboard and stats pages as a default option. Unfortunately, they have, in the face of fierce resistance, opted to forge ahead with the changes. They’ve ignored our suggestions and objections; now, they’re imposing those changes on us.
I haven’t made a final decision, and I’m not thrilled about the added expense, but I’m starting to lean toward the possibility of migrating my site to a self-hosted account. Whether I continue to use WordPress remains to be seen. Drupal and Joomia are alternatives if they reduce WordPress.org’s interface into a touchscreen hell designed for teens and twentysomethings.
-
I would be delighted if they didn’t keep making access to classic screens so difficult and if they wouldn’t keep telling me that they have made improvements because they haven’t. I am serious about working on here and I am not a ‘take a picture and post it’ user!
-
I agree. I’d love to stay here. They simply need to retain the old tools while giving us an path to them.
Instead, they’ve made it increasingly difficult to access the full-featured classic pages, all the while telling us that we should accept the changes.
Then in an almost Orwellian fashion, they crow about the wonders of the new interface (“Pay no attention to the disgruntled users behind the forums!”).
WordPress 3x was a fine content management system. I haven’t had a chance to look at 4, but I’m nervous about the possibility of the “improvements” migrating to the CMS side of things. We’re obviously getting a glimpse of the future, and it isn’t pretty, usable, or desktop friendly.
Joomla might be my CMS of choice in the near future.

I am as unhappy as the rest about this, and I can say exactly what I don’t like about the new stats page. Sometimes I want to check just to see the traffic on my blog. The most recent stats page had front and top the bar chart of my visitors over a period of about three weeks, with the hits and visitors recorded. It also advises me numerically of the visitors and hits, and right below that it shows me where the hits have come from. This is the information I want and need. The other stuff I look at may be every couple of days.
I agree with those who simply want to be able to access the old page. I don’t care what the reason is for the new page, whether for mobile or not. The bottom line is that this becomes a lot less useful for me, and gives me pause in setting up my second blog here. How hard is it to leave it in place for those who prefer it?
-
Please keep the classic stats page. With the new one you have to keep scrolling up and down to find what you’re looking for. There is no organization, it’s just info stacked on top of each other. The classic stats had everything organized in front of you with minimal scrolling if any. The classic is far more functional and user friendly. There is nothing confusing about the classic format. Why change that? And if so many people are speaking out, maybe that’s something to listen to.

We ♥ all classic pages – oh yes we do ☆
When we can’t find them – we are blue ☉
Take away from us and we’ll boo hoo

Haha, timethief, that was great!
The changes to the navigation have been quite frustrating. Today I noticed that I couldn’t click “Edit” under the My Sites on the top bar because it’s gone entirely.
Also cannot find a way to get to the old Stats page with the map. Both the links shown go to the “new” Stats page. I have it bookmarked, but many others are going to wonder where it is.
