Stats Classics: How to set?

  • Unknown's avatar

@designsimply: So, will we eventually be allowed to see the summaries – like I can with the old stats page? That’s the main issue I have with the new stats page. For example, with the old stats page I can see how many people have read my pages and posts over the last week, the last month, the last quarter, and ‘All Time.’ The ‘All Time’ function is the best for me as I can see overall how all my pages and posts are doing and which ones are being read and which ones are not being read.

  • Unknown's avatar

This is indeed a problem that so many data is not available. I like the summaries too and used them often.

To add something else, there should also some kind of csv export function for the summaries.

I think the summary table page is the one that is a planned update. This one: https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?view=table

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve added this to the suggestion list.

Suggestions lists … this is not how WP should be run. But thanks.

    @designsimply:

adrienneadams, comments were not blocked and were probably just approved out of order—that can happen if someone does a first pass to approve comments that don’t need a reply and a second pass later which gives the comments that are more critical, or that may need a reply, more time and attention and so those can take longer to appear.

Sorry, but it’s not true, mine was deleted.

For someone who works in the forums for seven years (me), I think it was not a very polite decision.

  • Unknown's avatar

Galois, sometimes duplicate sounding comments are not approved. Not every single comment is approved there, for various reasons.

I don’t really mind the new stats. They are not overly offensive, though it does feel that WP is dumbing down in every area – particular the awful new post facility – but perhaps that is just me. However I simply want a clear link from the new stats page to the summary page. It is perhaps one of THE most important pages for any blogger and it would appear to have been completely overlooked. Do any of the designers actually blog on WP?

  • Unknown's avatar

I liked it that the old stats page showed the number of visitors and the number of views for each date shown. The number of likes and comments by the day is not particularly helpful information. Neither is the map, I know where countries are. Anything that could be modified to present more information in a more compact form would be greatly appreciated.
I also find the new post page to be a real pain.

I hope it helps to know that a lot of the feedback received about that editor is being taken into account and a new one is being built.

You got it. They are already working on adding the all-time table summary view to the new stats page. I’m not sure exactly when it will be ready, but hopefully soon!

    Yes, they do.

I liked it that the old stats page showed the number of visitors and the number of views for each date shown.

The views and visits will be combined again after hearing feedback like this.

The number of likes and comments by the day is not particularly helpful information. Neither is the map, I know where countries are.

The likes are one of my favorite stats! And, interestingly, the map was something we got a ton of feedback about—people said they wanted it back (even though it does take up a bit more space). A lot of people seem to really like the countries graphic!

Anything that could be modified to present more information in a more compact form would be greatly appreciated.

The next step that will help in this area is going to be showing 30 days in the graph instead of 10. After that, I think some of the other feedback items we’ve been talking about here in the forums will get looked at, but I’m not sure of the order.

I also find the new post page to be a real pain.

That is being worked on too.

I would like to get from the Reader back to my Admin page in one click, as used to be the case. Better still to have the same black drop-down navigational menu as on other pages.

Second a direct link from a published post to the classic editor, as used to be the case.

I you can do just these two things then it would solve most of the nuisance.

  • Unknown's avatar

grahaminhats, the plan is to keep the blue menu for the new dashboard, and I do think the newer menu bars will continue to favor the newer tools—but there is a cookie-based setting that should switch it over for you so that when you click on edit in the gray toolbar or on the edit link inside the post itself (the one that usually appears after the tag list in most themes) it will take you to the older editor for a set amount of time. If that’s not working for you, it could be because you block the cookie somehow with a browser setting or browser add-on. If that is the case, it might help to add an exception in the settings to accept the cookie. If that sounds useful to you and you need help, I’ll help research it in more detail for you if you’d like.

    @designsimply

Lets try this simply. Why will WP not provide a means of getting from the Reader to the classic Admin page, in one click as used to be the case.

  • Unknown's avatar

The newer pages are preferred, and constructive feedback about them helps us make those pages better. Moving forward is better in the long term.

  • Unknown's avatar

    to designsimply:

“Preferred”? And how did you come up with that statistic?

I never filled out a survey saying what my preferences are. Just because bloggers are using the “new” WP, too-blue pages doesn’t mean that they prefer them. I would guess that they have no idea how to go back to the “classic” dashboard and admin. pages and are unaware of the Forums.

I have already written to my readers on my blog that I will be posting less this year. This is after I wrote to them last year saying the same thing. And I do have the statistics on how many posts I made to back that up.

To say I’m disappointed is to put it mildly. The so-called “new” changes have made blogging here unpleasant so I am blogging less.

Graham’s comment above was constructive criticism. There should be a 1-click option to go to the “classic” dashboard/admin. pages for those who really do prefer using them.

  • Unknown's avatar

I mean WordPress.com prefers the newer pages to be used more—the feedback is more helpful if more people are using them. The newer pages are WordPress.com’s focus.

Lots of changes are planned! Feedback is being reviewed and acted on. Updates will take time but it will all come together better over time.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well that is obvious that WP prefers the “new” changes. It has to cost less as why else ruin a good product?

I have no plans on using the “too-blue” WP pages. It reminds me of being on Facebook, not a pleasant experience either.

I noticed in an earlier comment from you that you stated another new editor is in the works.

“I hope it helps to know that a lot of the feedback received about that editor is being taken into account and a new one is being built.”
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/stats-classics-how-to-set/page/5?replies=136#post-2202461

I have never used it. Unfortunately I clear my cookies frequently so have to see it to click the button located at the bottom of the screen to go back to the “classic” editor. Which is another hassle added to others here on WP.

I’ve mentioned this before, why doesn’t WP use beta-testers? So far WP has launched a “new” unusable editor, a downgrade of the Stats page and a downgrade of the All Posts (it doesn’t have a bulk edit option).

  • Unknown's avatar

With the “new, and improved” Stats Page, I now have to scroll past a lot of information I find useless in order to get to the information I want to see.

With the Old Stats Page what I wanted to see was easily in reach.

If WP is going to permantely change the Stats Page, the very least they can do is allow the user to move the items on the Stats Page around so they can quickly get to the information they want to see.

  • Unknown's avatar

New post, editing and states in WP, it’s difficult to handle or control the smooth browsing as before.

Why we can’t choose between the new style and the classic one?
I can see many users don’t like the last updates in WP, at least let it to be a personal choice from blog general sitting (as language, daytime, theme… etc).

Oh. WP, please don’t force us to accept this changes, I really love my blog here and I don’t like to move to another blog sites.

    Regards,

That phrase made my blood run cold.
