Stats Counter occassionally counts self

I access my blog on the same computer I edit from. Within the same login as editing, I can visit one of my own pages, and if I access the page by some direct method, I am not counted, as you say is the case.

However, I can click to a rarely-visited topic, usually through a “related link” or some other method I haven’t been able to trace back yet, and I am counted. The hit is counted, and since it is to a page rarely-visited, the new count had to be me — either that, or a coincidence where another person visited the blog the same time as me. It has happened too often for me to be satisfied that it is a coincidence.

Wouldn’t it be just a matter of checking the IP# of the login and matching it with whoever clicked the link?

Do you mean it counts you when you’re signed in? That would probably be a bug which you should report to staff. If it counts you when you’re logged out, that’s exactly what it’s supposed to do.

  • It shouldn’t count you when you’re logged in. If it does please contact support with the details so we can investigate.

Checking the IP address isn’t enough because it’s common for many people to share one IP address.

No. It counts me while I am logged on, since I would go straight back to the stats chart to find out that I have been counted.

Of course, to be sure, I would also need to know the IP addresses of my visitors, which is information you don’t seem to offer.

Thanks for your responses, and I will contact support.
