Stats Don’t Add UP

For the last week or so the hit stats on my blog dashboard and stats index page don’t match. Also, when I scroll down the index page to the ‘blog stats’ section; the number of hits listed for the day doesn’t match either number, and is typically about twice the number of hits listed.

Some time near the end of the wordpress ‘day’, the hit stats in all sections suddenly change to match each other. This is not a significant problem, just annoying.

    My blog is http://www.smartdogs.wordpress.com

    When you say:
when I scroll down the index page to the ‘blog stats’ section; the number of hits listed for the day doesn’t match either number, and is typically about twice the number of hits listed.

where are you getting that last “number of hits?” Because of course the total hits on your blog will be more than the total number of hits on the posts listed, because most readers will only go to your main blog page.

the last number comes from “views today”.

previously when I’ve checked, that number would match, or closely match, the listed on the blog stats graph for the day

isn’t the default graph shown for the total number of hits (not just for today’s post)? and the stats for each previous post available when you click on the small graphs to the right of them on the today’s views section?

I’d guess that what’s happening is that my blog has now been around long enough to get a significant number of hits on older posts — but that doesn’t explain the occaisional large jumps in stats that occur typically near the end of the wordpress day.

but that could just be a statistical quirk in when people visit hte site.

OK. It the stats chart just suddenly LEAPT (ie doubled) in the last 30 seconds — it now matches the number of hits listed on ‘views today’.

31 seconds ago, it was half the number.

Sounds like there may be a bug in your stats. You’re not putting the blog in an iframe or something and displaying it elsewhere, are you? Because that can do weird things with stats depending on how it is displayed. Worth contacting staff on Monday just to get them to check things out.

No. No iframe. I’m mostly clueless when it comes to programming. I took a basic template and added text and photos to it. Nothing fancy.

Thanks, I’ll talk to support tomorrow. Very much appreciate your time today.
