Stats Don't Seem Right
-
My stats are showing 3 views on my latest post, even thought the post is showing 7 facebook shares and 1 Twitter share.
Further, my other post has over 200 views. I’d just like to get a sense of if my traffic is growing, but I get the feeling these stats are incorrect. Also I posted over an hour ago so a delay in datat capture would be a unlikely answer.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Our stats are not real time stats. For details see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ and note the views and viewers take hours to update. Provided you are logged in when visiting, your own views are not recorded on any public blog you registered.
Our stats are page view stats. Please do not assume that everyone who clicks a follow, like, share, reblog or comment link actually reads the post on your blog because odds are they may not. Also note that those who follow your blog in the Reader or by email don’t have to click into the blog unless they wish to. Subscribers control how frequently they receive your posts (instantly, daily, weekly). And, they can even comment without clicking into the blog either.
Follow, like, share, reblog or comment clicks are not page views. In fact, follows, likes, shares, comments and reblogs are completely misleading when you are talking about page view stats.
Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com/Gravatar account who is logged into WordPress.com can “follow” your blog, “like”, “share” and “reblog” your posts and “comment” in several locations such as the Reader, without ever clicking into your blog and creating a single page view stat.
Logged in visitors using a mobile can read the full post without creating a page view stat. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpresscom-reader-show-full-text?replies=31#post-1373606
You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here Dashboard > Settings > Reading. Choose the “summary” setting for your RSS feed rather than to “full text”. That will compel followers who are not using mobiles to click into the blog to read the full post which will create a page view stat.

Thank you for your abrasive and demeaning response. I wasn’t trying to make it seem like I have tons of traffic or show off or whatever you interpreted my question as… I was just trying to figure out why page views on my latest post aren’t registering.
I say this for 2 reasons:
1. There are 7 social shares on the post, 6 of which are Facbeook meaning they are unique. Yet there are only 5 page views for that post in the stats. This is logically and inherently wrong.
2. You say it takes hours for stats to load, yet views to my 2nd to last post and other pages have continued to register since my latest post.
Furthermore, don’t try to make it seem like I’m an idiot who didn’t check the help page on stats. No where on there does it say “it takes hours for stats to update.” Stats for my other pages have been seemingly real time, or quite close to it, as they’ve registered from right after I’ve posted and grew continuously from there.
If you read that help page, you’d find the following:
“You may also notice that your visitor count lags behind your views count. This is due to the way we are currently crunching the numbers. Typically a view is reported within five minutes, while it can take up to two hours to report new visitors.”
Finally, saying degrading things like “Please do not assume that everyone who clicks a follow, like, share, reblog or comment link actually reads the post on your blog because odds are they may not.” to new and enthusiastic WordPress users is really shitty customer service.
My question had nothing to do with whether the people clicking my blog were reading it, so why are you talking about that. That isn’t your job. Think before you answer paying customers’ questions, and please inquire to the real reason I have 5 page views yet at least 6 unique social shares on my latest blog post.
Thank you.

I’m sorry for being rude in my reply. I just am almost certain there’s a problem with the stats for that page, because of the discrepancy in shares, and I didn’t feel your response did much in the area of helping.
I hope we can work together to get this resolved.
Cheers.

Also the article has been tweeted by someone with 65k+ followers, so I just find it hard to believe that it’s gotten 5 views.
Please let me know how I can get an accurate read on views of that post.
Thank you

I’m afraid you’re too late. Being rude to the volunteers pretty much means you’re on your own.

I’m sorry, but someone was rude to me first. I’m new to WordPress and just trying to understand how it works. I asked a question, got a response basically telling me to “calm down, you’re not that great.” while not at all addressing my issue. I responded on impulse, and actually my response wasn’t even that rude if you think about it (given that I didn’t realize these were volunteers), and then I apologized. What happened to second chances? I’m a brand new WP user, was really enthusiastic and excited about getting my blog started, but am now feeling deflated after getting either demeaning or dismissive replies on here.
I didn’t know you guys were volunteers. That obviously makes a difference. As I am a paying customer of WordPress, there must be a way for me to get support for my problem. I thought my messages were going to WordPress customer service reps, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Can anyone advise on how I can get my issue resolved? It seems there was a problem picking up page views on one post yesterday, as views have been registering since midnight.
-
I’ve just read Time Thief’s original answer and can’t imagine which bit of it you think is abrasive, demeaning or rude. She has given you a concise, factual answer to your question.
Even if your post was shared by someone with so many followers it doesn’t mean they will all look at it. Unless it is clicked on it will not register in your stats. Someone looks at it through the reader it will not register. Someone clicks Like in the reader it still isn’t a view.
You will only know if your traffic is growing once you have blogged for a while and have more posts to compare it to.

My primary concern here is that there were 6 unique social shares (on Facebook), yet only 5 views. This is inherently impossible.
I don’t mean to make any brash assumptions about how many people should have viewed this post, simply observing that there was clearly a problem counting views at that point (and it’s still only showing 5 views for yesterday) because you can’t have more people share a page than have viewed it…and wondering how I find out what caused this discrepancy.
And you’re right, I may have misinterpreted the original reply and responded more harshly than necessary. That’s why I apologized.

Furthermore, being new to this, I thought my message was going to a WP customer service rep, and were private, rather than a community forum housed by volunteers.

This is inherently impossible.
Incorrect, and any of us could have explained, if only you hadn’t been so rude. Social capital is capital too, and whether you think you’re spending it on paid staff or volunteers doesn’t change that.
-
Sorry but rude is rude – makes no difference who someone is being rude to – also many times it takes a few go arounds to get the proper question or concern ask so the proper answer can be given – but your choice and your keyboard

So you thought you could be rude to Staff in private and that reveals and aspect of your character that repulses me. Know that I do not accept your apology and I will not assist you in the future.
