Stats Feedback

@supernovia thank you for gathering up the requests here with such good cheer and taking them back to the development team to advocate for change. We appreciate your efforts!
Just to add my vote, the things I most miss:
1) The mouse-over sparkline feature that told me what number of views the tallest bar represented
2) The “Total” number of followers including both email and WordPress followers
3) The Yesterday feature on all the analytics
If these were added back in, you’d be restoring the functions I most miss from the old stats page and would stop hating the new one. Thanks for your help!

I also miss the old stats and editor pages. The new pages are confusing and lacking in ease of use (at least, for me). I like the time stamp at the top of the old stats page among other things. The hole page is just a lot cleaner than the new format.
I also love the old editor. It’s intuitive and not confusing to me. I don’t seem to be able to find the “Short Link” button on the new editor, either. That was a lot easier than going to tinyurl.com to get a short link.
I also like the way hovering over the “My Sites” button automatically drops down the menu and allows me to bypass the new stats and editor pages. It would be good to, at least, bring that back.
Thanks!

@pellymade, @webmastersla since the sparkline is meant to be an at-a-glance view, you’ll see it if you are not already on the stats page.
-
@jiddleman, @shelbycourtland as staff, we are periodically checking this thread for feature requests. We tally the requests from the past several days, announce implemented features, and discuss remaining issues with our developers.
Since you are experiencing a bug rather than asking for a feature, please open a separate thread and add the “modlook” tag. We’ll be able to get back to you much more quickly that way. Thanks!
-
@supernovia, does it matter what browser we are using or anything else whether we see the sparkline? I am using opera and I still have to hit the “my site” button to see it in the drop down menu. It does not appear in the bar on any of my pages.
-
@farmerbob1 and @sensuouscurmudgeon , as I mentioned earlier, there are technical reasons for no longer supporting that version of the stats page. While we don’t use contests to drive development, most of the features we have now were A/B tested to help us determine what helps the most people.
We are also gleaning this thread for feature requests and tallying those. If there are specific features you’d like to see, please go ahead and list each request concisely, and I’ll tally them for you and get that to our developers. Thank you!
-
@bubbasuess it should appear whenever you click (not hover, for various compatibility reasons) on My Site, unless you are currently visiting the stats page. If that isn’t working, it’s a bug; can you create a new thread with browser details, etc, and add the modlook tag?
-
@pellymade , request for the forums link noted. @ingridcc I’ve also added your expanded request in our notes on that request.
-
-
@pellymade widening the page does not automatically include more days, but I will note a request to display more days at a time.
-
Supernovia,
Many of the requests you are “noting” are items that were available in the old stats which were much more user friendly overall. Why did WP remove these features in the first place? Just think of all the effort you are now having to put in to restore features that were previously present in the old stats. The approach that WP has taken to this change to the stats page has been sloppy at best and in many organisations staff would lose their jobs for less.
It has taken WP far too long to react to the outcry by seasoned WP users regarding the changes. WP has treated loyal users with contempt in the way it has approached these changes and the way it has reacted to the dissatisfaction of users.
Shameful! Truly shameful! -
@grahaminhats the page is as wide, but more width does not mean more features necessarily. I’ve filed a request for a drop-down switcher, as well as a request for a collapsable menu.

@jonellepn re: “Yesterday”, we tried to display more days that just Yesterday, but I think the major complaint we’ve gathered from the thread is that it’s too many clicks to go from Insights to Days to clicking on the bar for yesterday. We’ve reduced the number of clicks by making the Days page default for now (though your browser will still try to remember for you if you prefer another view, like weeks).
Can you let me know whether that resolves that issue for you, or whether there’s still something better from showing Yesterday instead of letting you choose between several days?
-
@jonellep @bandoteam @bubbasuess @diaryofdennis just confirming I’ve noted each of your requests for the “best hour” totals in the sparkline.
-
@rightbill you’ll want to file any editor feature requests in another thread, if you would. Be really specific about what features you’re asking for, too.
I noted your request for a time stamp.
Re: hovering over My Sites, for various reasons, this is now a click. But if you will click you will see the same bar.
-
@webmastersla your request to show older days is noted already, but I will add more notes to reflect your feedback.
-
@sekondtime if I could flip a switch for you I would, but since it’s quite a bit more complicated than that, I’ll continue to gather feature requests in this thread.
-
@supernovia I’m getting used to it – it won’t kill me to click on yesterday’s bar, then scroll down to the particular analytic category I’m interested in seeing – it was just nicer to have it right there and I got used to it being so convenient. ^^;;
I really miss having the sparkline just automatically appear in the upper left of all my WordPress windows, though – it helped me keep an eye on whether there was a sudden spike in traffic I should be attending to, and the mouseover tally helped me know how big the spike was. I’d really be happy if that reappeared as a feature on all the pages.
