Stats glitch?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello there,
Just a small thing – I’ve noticed United Kingdom stats haven’t shown up for the past two days, but there are some that come up as ‘European Union’. It’s almost unheard of for no UK stats to come up (as I’m based there).

I thought I’d bring it to your attention out of interest, but it’s not critical.

    With best wishes,
    Mike

  • Hi there,

If stats are showing up for the EU instead of the UK, it’s because that’s the information we’re getting for the IP addresses of people viewing your site. If we’re able to detect the exact country a viewer is coming from we show that, but sometimes we’re only able to detect the region rather than an exact country. This isn’t a glitch, but an inherent limitation in tracking someone’s location online via their IP address.

Many thanks for your reply, Kokkieh.

There’s occasionally traffic marked as EU although I always have daily traffic from the UK. Presumably it’s very unusual that none of it can be specifically located. It’s happened for a couple of days now.

It won’t end the world but it’s just something I noticed.

    With best wishes,
    Mike

  • I checked a couple other sites, and do see UK stats on them, so we are still tracking UK visits. This is most likely just a coincidence that people visiting your site from the UK cannot be tracked more exactly at the moment.

Thank you for taking a look. I guess that’s the case. I’ll keep an eye on it over the coming days.

Presumably the UK will have to be removed from this region by 2019.
