Stats – Image views
-
When looking at my page stats, I noticed today that there are views for 2 of the images I have in the post. On top of being confused about that, there are more views for the image in the post than the post itself.
So 1) Why are these 2 images coming up to be viewed separately, when other images in that post and other posts haven’t? 2) Where are they being viewed from?
3) How can the stats show more views for the images than the post that they are a part of?I renamed the images so I could keep track of their apparent view stats, but I just can’t figure it out.

What is the URL of that post please?

Additional information:
Our stats are page view stats. https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ If I visit your blog and click into 10 posts that will be recorded as 1 visitor and 10 page views. If I click on the images in any post then I view each of them on their own pages and that’s a page view stat for each one I click on. -
Hi there,
1) Why are these 2 images coming up to be viewed separately, when other images in that post and other posts haven’t?
If someone clicks on the image to view it full size, or right-clicks the image and copy the URL into a new browser tab, they’re viewing the image separately from the post. We still track those views as well.
2) Where are they being viewed from?
Each image has a unique URL that’s used to embed it in the post. That URL is accessible to anyone with a bit more advanced knowledge of how browsers work.
3) How can the stats show more views for the images than the post that they are a part of?
The only way this would happen is if someone viewed the image more times than they viewed the actual post. They could even have shared the direct link of the image with others, meaning the other people would view only the image, not the post at all.
And before you ask, there’s no way to prevent this. The URL for a publicly posted image on a publicly visible site is discoverable to anyone who knows how via the standard tools that come built into any browser. On self-hosted WordPress there are plugins you can use that claim to prevent this, but even those are very easy to circumvent if you know how.
