Stats inconsistency

    We are aware of an issue which is probably driving some of you nuts. Sorry :(

    When viewing your stats, usually on your dashboard, but sometimes in your blog’s sidebar if you are using the stats widget, the numbers will change on every page load. Sometimes they will be high, sometimes low.

    We have identified the core issue as being a bug in MySQL which prevents the data from replicating between our different database servers correctly. The end result is that some servers have the correct info and others don’t. This problem has actually been around for a while, but earlier this week we made a change in how often we update the stats information which made it worse. Previously your stats were updated every couple minutes, now it is usually within a few seconds.

    To fix the issue, however, means re-copying all the database information. Not a problem, but it is about 400GB of data, so it will take a while. Don’t worry, none of the data is at risk of being lost, it is just a little confused for the moment.

    Hopefully we can complete this in the next few days and the numbers should be consistent once again.

    P.S. The good news is that the higher numbers are the correct ones in most cases

    We are still working on re-syncing some of the historical stats, but most of the major inconsistencies have been resolved. If you are still seeing weirdness in either “Today’s Stats” or “Yesterday’s Stats” please me know in this thread and I will take a look.

    Quick note of thanks to say that the issues I’ve been having with my Referrers and Top Posts & Pages has been resolved. I do notice that my Total Views from my dashboard logs 100 +/- views than the stats posted on my sidebar.

    ok thanks for the help on that! One of my blogs got that bug at first we didn’t know what to expect of it I thought we were just losing views but then i noticed that we were getting more comments then hits per day so we contacted support!
