Stats Incorrect?

Sorry. I didn’t know it was going to post. I thought I was doing a quick search. The stats say that X number of people have looked at my blog, and that there have been Y number of viewers, but then when it shows which blogs have had a certain number of views, that number is Z. I have a stalker – I’m wondering if he’s getting into my blog some weird way, so it’s showing that he’s been on my blog, but won’t show me which posts he’s looking at.

  • Hi there,

Of what site are you speaking? You have several in your account.

The number of views on individual blog posts will never exactly match the total number of views on your site. That’s because views on blog posts are not the only views that are counted. We also count views on archive pages, like the posts feed and search result pages, and views on media files and image gallery carousels.

The Visitors stat refers to the number of unique browser sessions that connected to your site in the specified timeframe, and Views the total number of pages viewed by those visitors.

So if two people loaded your site in your browser, one looked at 3 posts, 1 page, and scrolled down a category page to see two pages’ worth of posts, and another visited one post and your contact page, your stats would show 2 vists and 8 views.

I have a stalker – I’m wondering if he’s getting into my blog some weird way, so it’s showing that he’s been on my blog, but won’t show me which posts he’s looking at.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this, but there’s no way at all to tie any visits/views on your blog to a specific person – we don’t track that in any way, and there’s no way someone could view your blog in a way that would cause anomalies in the stats.

It’s possible for someone to use a privacy add-on in their browser that blocks analytics trackers to prevent their visits from being recorded at all, but in that case it will simply record no visitor and no views, no matter what that person does on your site.
