Stats – is there something wrong?

Okay, everybody loves good stats but I want mine to be accurate. Within maybe 20 minutes, all of a sudden I got over 75 or so hits on my lastest blog post. I would like to think my blog is that interesting but it’s not. Actually, I’ve seen my stats to up dramatically lately so I’m wondering if there’s an issue with the stats. Honestly, I don’t think my blog is so interesting that people are just waiting for me to post so they can start reading. Is there something going on and is there a way to adjust the stats so I’m seeing a reliable number?

okay, something is wrong for sure. As of writing the above, I got 95 more hits on my stats. Anyone have any idea why the stats are off and what I can do to fix it?

Tishrei, if you look on the stats page, there’s a referrer column which tells you where the hits are coming from. Click on any of the links and it will take you to the page which mentions your blog.
It sounds like someone has mentioned you somewhere and people are checking you out. Good news.
Apologies if you know all this stuff already. Don’t mean to be patronising.

Thanks. I already knew that but then you don’t know what I do know or not :) and I know less about this stuff than I do know. So thank you for pointing that out to me.
It came from “stumble upon” and while they are a way that my site gets visitors. Yesterday I had a lot of visitors but not so many so quickly. I’ve been blogging for less than a year and my stats have only been higher in the last few months (3 months maybe).
Stats make you feel good but I want my stats to be accurate and not inflated because of some technical problem. I honestly don’t think my blog is such that it would be a ‘popular’ blog which is why I think there’s some issue.
Never mind — though I don’t know what to make of this. I have another thing on my blog that tracks — “Statcounter.” For some odd reason that for the life of me I can’t figure out, I have a bunch of unique visitors so I guess there’s nothing wrong with the stats. Maybe someone from “Stumble Upon” was able to inflate my stats because one of my posts annoyed them.
I wished I knew if this was legit or someone messing with my stats on purpose.

That is so annoying. There is no way my stats would be like that. I must have annoyed someone and they’re messing with me somehow.

I dunno what goes on with Stumble Upon but I think you’re blog is well written, you have a point of view, you post regularly – maybe more people are starting to appreciate it?
